Subleasing an apt

So quick question for you fine people.

I co-signed an apartment for my mother about two months ago for a one year lease. Well, she passed away two weeks ago, and the apartment doesn't think death is a good enough reason to break the lease. My options are to keep the apartment or pay a shit load of fees to break the lease.

What all do I need, or should have, to sub lease the apartment?

I don't want to fuck myself into an even worse situation.

The fees are almost as much as finishing out the lease.

Most appts will not allow you to sublease. I have never heard of one that would allow it.

That sucks man. The apartment may not think it is enough, but an attorney might. Meet with one and at least start a paper trail.

They gave me two options basically. Finish the lease or pay a crazy fine.

I wasn't sure if subleasing is possible or not.

The shitty thing is the apartment manager came over to me when my mother passed and gave me some bs " if you need help with anything you just let us know blah blah blah ". I go in a week later to see what I need to bring all of this to a closer and she was all
