I predict another dry summer and Lavon will be dust again. Too many houses sucking water out of there. I saw Lavon full and overflowing just a few years ago due to a solid month of rain and it was as dry as a popcorn fart again soon after. North Texas has a water supply vs. population issue and they are behind in building water infrastructure to handle the increase in the population. Throw in HOAs that will fine the shit out of you if your lawn isn't green, soil that will crack your foundation if it isn't kept moist, and Texas's hot summers that dry out lawns fast and you have a recipe for disaster.

California has similar stupidity going on regarding the idiotic use of water to irrigate what is essentially desert land. Throw in the fact that the soil here won't hold water and you have to water every day to keep everything alive and you have a lot of watering going on. They say that California has about a year's worth of water left before it's the dust bowl again. This drought going on here is about to teach some hard lessons to the idiots with the lush green lawns.

Can't argue that really, plus evap and it's hard to maintain a reservoir.

Our HOA has adjusted with the drought and are not as picky about the lawns right now.

Hopefully we have learned our lesson but I doubt it... Driving through westlake this morning I saw two lawns being watered.

We constantly tell people that they don't need to be watering right now. They still run their sprinklers. Even then, we try to coach them to run their sprinklers effectively. If you see run off, you are watering too much.

It would be wise for communities to maintain some sort of water restriction, or implement permanent watering guidelines.

It's been a long time since I lived there, but that is so sad to hear. My last house there (before moving to DFW in 2000) had St Augustine that I watered for like 15 min 3 days a week, and had to cut it twice a week sometimes, it grew so damn fast. That was in Riverside (just northwest of downtown).

Walking on it, it felt like walking on pillows.

I think I have watered my front yard 2 or 3 times so far, but with all of the rain lately have been able to leave the sprinklers off. I haven't watered my back yard but it's still a mud hole from all of the rain. It's mostly weeds though.

One of my neighbors had their sprinklers running on Monday morning when I left for work. It had just stopped raining less than 6 hours prior to that...

Why are so many people hell-bent on having a green lawn? I'd rather put that time, water, money and effort into a garden or something that will produce some food out of it. Lawns just seem silly.
