Funny enough, the rebuilt titles don't kill the value like they used to, especially on higher end cars. Body damage on the other hand is one of the hardest sells out there. I can sell a car with a mechanical issue way easier than I can with body damage.

I visited with him last night and he mentioned he is disputing carfax. Autocheck is clean but carfax shows an accident each time it was registered. Even when he registered it... and no accident occurred. He is someone I trust as being honest.
See above about the rebuilt titles. They just don't kill the value anymore, most people don't even know what it means. If I could get an otherwise perfect Z06 for 10K, my C4 would be long gone by now.

Carfax can be a POS at times. I nearly lost a sale on an 01 Prelude because carfax reported a total loss front collision. When I showed the guy the clear title, clear autocheck, and original paint on the shock towers, he agreed that they fucked up.

Corvettes have been in serious flux on the values here recently. I scored my 92 last summer for $3400, now you can't touch the damned things for less than 6K. I was seeing nice M6 C5's going for 8-10k, now they're up to $14K

The economy in this area is starting to turn and people don't need the money like they used too. You can still find deals, you just have to be Whiteboy committed at searching...

I haven't found any Z's under 100k miles for 15k but would prob buy one of those over a branded title if I could find one.

Also considered buying a lightly modded FRC non Z but don't want to get killed on resale so sticking with the Z if I can find one.

Being a theft car makes me less concerned about the branding of the title. He had offered it to me a few months ago before I sold my blue car. It was before he knew the carfax was wrong... it was CHEAP knowing now the car doesn't have accident history.

Then maybe it's time to sell mine for a good profit.

He is a business man, in the car business. My guess he is unemotional about his product and only sees the $$. Smart. Whiteboy can tell you, money is made when you "buy" something, not when you sell it.

Its a different mindset when you want it.

Ha, I got "that mileage is really high ..." from a few guys looking at my z06. Five years old with 38k miles. "Before you know it I'd hit 40k then the next one after that is 50k."

What are the other common problems besides oil consumption, steering column, and hvac controls?

Gas gauge is incredibly inconsistent. Would kill it with 1/2 a tank, next startup with a 1/4 tank. Seemed to improve running Techron.

Not necessarily a "problem" but just know these cars run very hot form the factory. First thing I did was a tune and a cooler tstat.

Thanks for tips. Do the gas tanks leak?

No just some problem with the sending unit. Techron seemed to make it more consistent.

prices on vettes seem to fluctuate monthly. i have not been tracking c5s, but c6s are all over the place.

i am trying to get a c6 right now and private owners are hard to deal with. they never call back or just some other story on their car. dealerships just sit on the cars not willing to make a deal. i have seen the same cars show up at another lot after auction for even more than was asked at the previous lot.

i believe it is a problem with the jet pump much more so than the sending unit. only getting fuel from one tank and the other was not filling. very common problem. leaking diffential and a few other glitches. they have their quirks but for the money hard to beat for the performance.
