  • Cracked Windshield

The 4Runner suddenly has a good sized crack in the windshield. Must have something to do with the weather. Hell, I dunno. It's maybe 4-5 inches, but I'm sure it will grow. Not really interested in a repair job. What's the deal with replacement options? I see commercials about replacement and not even paying a deductible. What's the trick to that? I don't want to make a claim if it's gonna make my insurance rates go up. So, naturally, I figured I would ask here before I call anyone. What's the best way to get it replaced? Any recommendations on which company to use?

    Thanks in advance!

some vehicles randomly have stupid expensive windshields, but I have a guy who does a bad ass OEM CarLite Super Duty windshield for around $300. Clean install, etc.

don't go with the cheapest discount glass you can find, they just chip and crack so easily

I bought an '07 F250 with 200k on it and the OEM windshield doesn't have a chip in it! Has a little bit of sand pitting and has the Kentucky plant oval sticker in the lower right corner.

There's no WAY one of those $149-199 windshields is going to last that many miles

Some bastard smashed the passenger side window on my Mustang and Safelite replaced it with one of their OEM-equivalent replacement. The first one was seriously distorted when viewed from the inside, and it is noticeably wavy when viewed from the outside. The second one they tried to put in was scratched to hell on BOTH sides. Finally had enough and paid the difference for a Carlite side window instead.

Agree with Cooter, stay with Carlite if possible because these OEM-equivalent glass are junk.

It may not make your insurance rates go up, I'd call and ask. Most policies have like a $50 deductible for glass.

This! I threw a fit last year when I had to get my windshield replaced and they wanted to use aftermarket (new truck with ~10k miles). the agent may have hated it but that fucker bought me an OEM one.
