I've been sending small donations to the Prison Entrepreneurship Program. When I get a real job again, I'll probably step up my involvement.

My wife has a nonprofit that helps abused women and sex trafficked victims. She is securing funding right now to open a resale shop in Hurst that will operate as a funding venture for her programs. So if people have things to donate, I'll get you an address.

There are a lot of people who are genuinely dealt a bad hand and need every ounce of help they can get.

The CEO of my company has a good phrase that he uses to describe his philosophy, "You should give until it makes you a little uncomfortable". I have adopted that idea. I don't believe you should ever publicly talk about what you donate because charity with recognition is just another form of self serving vanity. Although I do believe you should write it off your taxes with enthusiasm. lol

I pay taxes so technically I donate to about 47% of the nation.

My charity and volunteer hours are split between STEM for younger students, animal rescues, and misc advocacy groups.

I do not give as much as I should.

I'll know more as it unfolds, but it just needs to be in resellable condition. She does a lot of clothing, furniture, etc. Stays away from electronics and what not.

I like to take kids huntings and normal good will etc. The wife does more than i do but we support many of the local clubs/groups.

I just like seeing people of any age hunting for the first time and its even better when they connect.

I'm with you there. The majority of these charities take nearly all of the money for the fat cats running the place and a few crumbs go to the people that it's actually supposed to help.

Goodwill is by far the worst, look up their practices and you will think twice about donating to them.

I donated a day of my time last year to setup Christmas decorations at the local children's home. It was a day well spent.

Tax exempt charities are required to file with the IRS on form 990. These filings are public record for this exact reason. Its extremely easy to find out how many dollars go to its programs vs overhead.

I'm not saying that there aren't some that lie on their tax filings, but its a good start.
