  • WTF is wrong with me?

Am I getting old, or is it just me being a Dad, or is it something else?

On Saturday I took my son with me to the Ford dealership. I wanted to see how he and his child seat fit in the back. For those that have that question in their head, the answer is... yea, it works.. Pics below.. It is obviously not something for daily driving your kid around but its fine for short trips...

But that's not what I'm talking about here today. My son and I went ahead and test drove the GT that day and the end result is that I'm no longer interested. We drove from Bill Utter Ford and headed down Shady Shores because I35 is a damn mess. I only got it up to 80 (on a 40) but WOW how fast it got up to 80 gave me a grin a mile wide. But man, what an awful ride. Lots of wind and road noise too. Keep in mind, Shady Shores rd is a bit of a mess but that was the point for me. I wanted to know that I can live with this car. After that drive, I really don't think I can...

Of course, it's a sports car and that's the point. I'm in total agreement there. It's not the car. It's me. Later that day I test drove the Challenger RT plus. Not nearly as quick, but quick enough to be fun. However I enjoyed it a lot more. That car felt like something I can live with. It doesn't hurt that the back seat area is like the Grand Canyon when compared to the Mustang. It also didn't hurt that the 2015 Challenger's cabin is a very nice place to be.

So yea, I'm feeling a bit old..

    Oh, the car seat photos..

People get older and their desires in a car change. I wouldn't call it something wrong with you. Fuck, I'm driving around an old Festiva because it gets amazing mileage. And my truck is broken down, but I don't think that'd matter. 3x the mileage has a noticeable affect on one's pocketbook.

I agree with you, some of the things we once lived with , we can no longer accept.

I used to lift, or lower every car or truck i ever owned. Now, i dont want the problems it brings. I would still modify my second car, but not my daily driver.

There's nothing wrong at all. That's just what happens when you have a family and your priorities change.

Glad to hear the 0-80 run got you smiling. There's hope for you yet.

We've got the family vehicle side of things covered. This would have been my toy. My boy wouldn't be riding back there that often.

Yep. I got rid of the Mustang II and passing up on a 93 Cobra. I'm retarded too. I want it, but I don't.

I'm moving in the opposite direction. I'm on my second 4 door sedan currently and now that my kid is old enough to ride in the front seat without a booster I'm eyeballing Mustangs again. Still a year and a half on the current lease but I'm pretty sure summer 2016 will have me back in a Mustang for a daily.

My daily is a 2014 GT and I've got two kids that ride in the back. They are 7 and 4 and only use boosters, not full car seats like that one anymore. There's still room for them back there and they love riding in it. I got it when I did because I knew that in a few years they won't fit and I won't be able to have a car like that again for a long time, it was now or 15 years from now... Not the MOST responsible decision I've made, but I don't regret it and my boys love it. That said, in another year or two I'll have to look at trading it on a bigger vehicle but I'll still have my fox so it's ok.

Mine are 7 and 9. They're both in full car seats and will stay in them as,long as I can find seats that fit properly. They also stay in the back seats. The 9 year old is 64lbs and the 7 year old is 67lbs.

I've seen too many accidents in my time to change that. They never even got to ride in the Cobra, other than a couple of short neighborhood trips. They never got to get out on the main roadways Bacause the rear seats only had lap belts.
