      Cobb Tune

I have a Z4 35is - enjoyed it - but now with the cobb tune, I am really enjoying the car. Did install some catted down pipes and stepped up the tune - car is really fun!

In the cold weather even tried the FMIC tune - even more noticeable power and drivability - and tune is FREE - with warmer weather will switch back to aggressive 2 ST.

Pay to Play, but you will notice the difference and they are "in" many BMW's with no problems.

I have a 2010 535i and recently installed a jb4, dci, ER chargepipe with Tial BOV (bung ready for meth as well).

It was a quick little car prior, but the tune has definitely woken it up. It took me a while to decide which tuner to go with, I was stuck between the Cobb & jb4. The Cobb is more simple in the sense that you just connect it via your obd2 and the jb4 takes a few minutes more to connect via your eec. (It literally takes 15 minutes or so to install or remove the jb4 once you get in there)

COBB is really high quality stuff. I would have zero reservations about their tune.

My friend had an access port on a newer Z4 and that thing was bad ass and he had no problems with it.

Nobody does a stage II for the n55 X-series, which makes no sense to me. I guess the DME's are different enough that nobody's found it cost-effective to do testing, but I would think that the stage II is just a few parameter changes on the stage one.

If I'm spending over 2 grand on a tune/install, I'd like to at least crack 400ftlbs.

I agree. My dad has the same car as me, but 2 more doors and 2 more wheels drive... im thinkin if i get the cobb i can tune his car for free, since they are both 11s...

I was going to go to Cobb today, but wife stole the car. Lol

cobb accessport is a good device. i know a lot of people that use it on evos, subarus, and GTRs. that said, most of my bmw friends use JB4 though.

i know cobb AP doesnt work for a lot of later model N55s since BMW cracked down on their ecu exploits so that might be the reason.

im not a fan of canned stage tunes but AP comes with accessrace tuner, which is PC software where you can edit anything as long as the table is defined. nice if you want to get a custom tune.

Yea, looks like we got lucky to get an 11 which was year one n55... cobb shows some impressive gains imo. Have a friend whos good friends with everyone at the plano shop, said to ask for a custom tune to tweak the aggressive tune. I basically just want the boost not to drop at higher rpm. Even if i have to replace every plastic pos valve under the hood. Lol

I believe your father would have to have his own accessport for his vehicle as the device marries itself to one specific ECU at a time.
In regards to Cobb in general, they are a great tuning solution. Back when i was sporting a mazdaspeed 3 i had their now stage 3 package with a pro-tune.

I hate that too. my stock dyno shows it perfectly, it falls on its face at~5500rpm.

However, if you play any gran turismo, you will see that almost all of the german cars do that (on the boost guage).

Not sure the logic, but i think it is by design.

is it auto or manual? mine is 6MT. My brothers 6AT is definitely faster, for easy of just punching the throttle, but mine is way more fun to drive and im really content with it as is. not going to do much else to it. it's a good car.

Its a 6at, daily traffic car and such. We had two dsg vw's before it and didnt want to wait for the golf r... we got this car for a good deal, figure drive it 2-3 years and role the equity into a 435 or m4 before the major service dollars start to show.

As for the boost drop, alot of it is the stock plastic diverter valves and charge pipe... i plan to swap the charge pipe for a good one with a tial or similar wg on it. I dont want huge boost, i just dont want it leaving. Rather have 12-13 the whole rpm than 18 down low and 9 up top which is how the stage 2 tune is...

Not sure about which exact model you have, I believe they have some stuff for the n55 as well on www.n54tuning.com

I got all my stuff dealing directly with Mike, he worked out a better deal with me than just buying the things straight from either websites. He's just a distributor, but I assume he gets better pricing direct from manufacturers.

I got bought all my stuff, even got the chargepipe anodized black, upgraded BOV and got the meth bung welded, shipped and all and still saved money. He also sells Cobb accesport as well.

Always heard good things about Cobb. He started his business in a small tire shop a couple miles from my house. Glad to see the little guys make it big....
