What pisses me off are all the toll roads they just fucking opened in the HEB area.

It's not all toll, only the express part, which I am totally ok with. Even if you only stay on the non-toll portion, it is improved and has at least as many lanes as it was formerly. Then you have reduced traffic in the "free" lanes, because of those willing to pay tolls. And, if you need to get somewhere faster, you have the option of using the toll lanes too..

IMO that's how all toll roads around here should be. It pisses me off when they build a new road, and it is 100% toll.

It could be six lanes wide each way with out a toll lanes and extra barriers. I do find myself using the toll road more so than the free part, mostly to reduce stress. I can usually just set the cruise control to 80 and go.

If Texas starts to lean any more this bill will pass. Maryland has a rainwater tax that has been in effect since 2012.

Everyone says that since cars get better milage that tax dollars are down. Well, when gas hit under $ 2.00 a gallon, don't you think more gas was burned because people could travel more ? Remember.......the TAX was the same amount on $ 2.00 gas that it was on $ 4.00 gas. I bet the government has actually taken in more money lately. I buy at a Sam's store, and there are about 15 pumps that ALWAYS have at least 3 cars in line at any time you go. It never was that way when it took $75.00 to fill up a full size car or truck. The media will never run that story.

True but when if ever will see more done with less? Not how it works here unfortunately. At this point I'd rather see the road tax go up over every road in town turning into a toll road run by a foreign company.

You are 100% right. At this point I look at it as we are going to get fucked either way so which option comes with lube?

I don't know if the government spending mindset will ever change. Budgets are forever growing and each years budget is "use it or lose it".

Why do people believe the lie that our roads are falling apart? Any problem with funding of road maintenance stems from the fact that government wastes money.

Or if they would spend the fuel tax on roads as it was originally intended. Instead it gets split up and used for other things. As an example, a quarter of Texas’ state gas tax revenue is spent on education, and some of it funds public pensions and benefits for state agencies other than the Texas Department of Transportation.

So they split it up and spend it on everything except what it was collected for, and then claim that there is no money to keep the roads in shape. It's all a big shell game
