  • Question about turning on electricity in a home that already has service

I'm going to rent a home that already has service turned on by the landlord. Do I just need to set up my own service and they'll cut off the current service or is there more to it?

Yup, you won't even know that it happened.

They will come out and read the meter on the day service switches over and start billing you instead. That is about it.

If it's co-op, you'll call them and just change it to your name. However, if you have the option to choose your own provider, then the above statements will apply.

Call whatever company you want to go with and switch asap.
