cash at a small shop is not exactly shady, more so them protecting themselves. reason being is you are being put in a rental. they put their card down on the rental or in most cases a purchase order, they are locked in to paying for said rental. now you still have to pay the deposit and sign for the rental, but they already get that you are mad and they are trying to avoid being locked in to paying for extras days if you decide to be a typical "i was done wrong customer" and bring back the rental when you please.

to be clear, i am no way in any way affiliated with this shop. i just have seen most every situation play out and know what you and the shop are going through.

Yeah the cash thing was weird and shady, I dont know what was going on with that. Just ready to be done with this place. If the car still aint right after this might just take it somewhere else and eat the cost eventually

You seem to have your shit together, well except for that fiasco in the canyon, but that really wasn't your (ya'lls) fault. What made you take your 2014 JC there in the first place?

LOL yeah the canyon was an interesting one. Well be going back in a couple months, hopefully with a less extravagant ending.

As far as the vehicle, it was not my decision, its my girlfriends car (she was incorrectly referred to as my wife on here) and she dealt with the insurance, towing, body shop etc after the accident. She kept me up to date about everything but nothing seemed amiss and I had not seen the body shop in person, I just assumed it was some-what reputable since AAA is a pretty large insurance agency. I did not get involved until after the second or third delay. I wish I would have been involved in the beginning, I should've known better; while she isn't dumb shes not mechanically inclined either.

Yeah that makes sense. I should've dug into it further while I was there but just didnt think about it till after.

@shagginwagon will have to keep that in mind for (hopefully not) next time. I really regret not getting that car to an actual dealership.

                Ahhh, OK.

These kinds of places will take advantage of women and men that don't know any better or simply don't have the time to research collision repair centers. The tow truck drivers are in on the take as well, those leeches are paid by the CRC in cash! Sometimes upwards of $150.00/$300.00 to bring in hard hits to their shop. They are the ones that will recommend these shops when they show up to tow the vehicle.
Most people that are in a hard wreck are a little distracted with all the cops, emergency vehicles all around them that they just go with who is recommended by the tow truck driver. Most of the time though, they take them to the bigger dealerships because they pay the most money, but it all depends on the relashionship they have with the CRC's in advance.

                  Yeah I can just imagine.

Its funny you mentioned that about the tow trucks. I went to the accident scene and the tow truck driver was pushing a repair shop pretty hard, to the point he was almost pushy about it. We ended up not going to that shop because of the tow truck drivers demeanor. In hind site they couldn't have been much worse than the one we ended up at anyway lol. Its too bad there is such an array of sketch business out there like that.

all true, but also people are given three choices on the side of the road if the police are there. if you have valid insurance and did not commit a crime, you have the choice.

                    - city pound
                    - where ever you want but you pay
                    - shops the tow company have an account with and you will not have to pay at that time.

people always choose the last one and get all kinds of upset when they find out they have a tow bill to pay. now like said above, if a wrecker is actually pushing a shop, then he most likely has some cash coming his way for the drop off.

I've been in the business a long time and I didn't find out about that kind of under handed dirtiness until about 2006. I was wondering why I never received any of those types of wrecks all those years. It wasn't until I became friends with the owner of a huge tow truck company that I was let in on the kind of bullshit scam they were running.

word. i think it was the towing company owners that started it. i remember one audacious motherfucker that came in demanding money because of the agreement his company had with the previous manager at the shop i had just started at.

the tdlr took over and scared most towing companies, but the drivers keep it quiet now.

i hear of drivers getting fired for taking money nowadays, but those are just the dumb ones.

Yup, I had the same thing happen to me. It was a friends daughter that wrecked out on the tollway, she insisted that they bring it to me. The driver came in and demanded $250.00, I told that cocksucker to get off my property before he became a statistic. He left mad and mumbled something about me never getting another nice money making wreck. I told that queer, I didn't need his or anyone's else's business.

                            Damned leeches!

Ive heard some crazy horror stories out of Houston.

They dont have contracted tow drivers, it's first come first serve. So you get in a wreck, and 15 wreckers show up. You have to read the fine print on the ticket you are signing, because they will take it to their yard slash body shop and Taquería, tear it down for an estimate (per your request, in the fine print) and wait for you to call asking why it isnt at the body shop you requested it go. Then they wait for the insurance to come see their teardown, and expect to be paid for tearing it down.

No disrespect to anyone here or in the collision repair business, but Details Ltd all day long. I'll never take any of my cars anywhere else.
