  • Radio Shack no more choo choo

    Took long enough
Nearly a century after it opened its first store and sent out its first catalog, RadioShack (RSHC) declared bankruptcy on Thursday.
It has struck a deal to sell up to 2,400 of its approximately 4,000 stores and wireless company Sprint (S) will create a "store within a store" in up to 1,750 of those.

But RadioShack is not completely going away. Customers will still be able to purchase RadioShack products, services and accessories at the approximately 1,750 stores where Sprint will open shop. In fact, Sprint will occupy just one third of those locations, where it will sell devices and plans.

I worked in several Radio Shack stores during the mid 90's as a salesperson and as an Assistant Mgr. and am not even slightly surprised by this. It was a terrible company to work for and at this point it is merely an empty shell of what it once was in the 80's. Good riddance to extremely overpriced flashlight batteries and pushy cell phone salesmen.

The only reason I go there is to pick up the random resistor, and I bypass the employees completely.

It was my second job ever back in 1995. The only part I didn't like was inventory time. Everything else was fine, and I had fun and actually made pretty good money for my age signing people up for cell phone service. It kicked off my sales career and got me where I am today. It would suck if they were gone completely. Sometimes they are the only place to get certain things quick when I'm in the middle of a project.

I worked the lovers lane store Christmas 01. Made a ton of money in the Christmas rush, and quit right after. It was a bunch of bullshit, I just looked at the commission schedule and sold what made me the most money, but they kept handing me sales awards and asking me to take a store manager position. I pretty much hated it there, with the mouth breathers that they hired.

well what really sucks is all the people losing jobs. My wife has been with them 20yrs and will not have anything to show for it. Plus we are going to be minus her income. Here is praying she finds something soon.

I'll believe they're actually going away when I see it. How many times has sears filed for bankruptcy, they're still around with no relevance in today's world.

I've told autozone corporate several times to take over radioshacks supply line of electrical equipment and supplies. Just make an extra section for resistors and boom you pick up the niche market on electrical accessories
