  • Where do you buy your glasses?

It seems buying glasses has become as difficult as buying a car. I want no-line bifocals with Transistions.

I go to Visionworks - who have huge signs "Buy One Get One Free", pick a frame and she says it will be $228, so I ask this is for both pairs? She says "Oh, the BOGO price is $379 for both pairs". I left

Stopped at Walmart, pick my frames, and one pair of glasses is $302. I left

I wasted 2 hours. So I call Lenscrafter to just ask how much lens are, they tell it's impossible to price lenses without the prescription - so I read it off to her- she was shocked,, but told me the range was $230-$770 for JUST lenses.

Called JC penney Optical - same runaround.

Where do you guys go? This didn't used to be such a hassle

I don't wear glasses, but my wife does. She goes where they take our insurance, which I think is Target Optical.
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

Don't have vision insurance. Not that long ago eye exams were $35, and you could get glasses for less than $100. But since it's all gone up 300-400%, I may need to pickup vision insurance!

I don't wear them anymore, but I used to buy all my backup glasses from zenni. So cheap I could keep a spare set at home and one in each vehicle if you just get basic lenses with no add ons. The only reason I ever bought my main pair from the optomatrist was insurance covered a large portion so I usually got transitions lenses with them. But I never had a complaint with zenni and there were several times I had to use my backup glasses and I never had an issue with them.

Find affordable glasses, sunglasses, and contacts at Zenni. Shop our range of prescription and non-RX frames, from classic to trendy styles, starting at $6.95!

I think law school has finally forced me into buying a pair.

10 years ago I paid $2,200 for laser eye surgery and it was one f the best decisions of my adult life. I LOVE not having to deal with glasses.

            Sorry, no help.

I had 20/20 vision when I started law school. My 1st yr Property prof told us during orientation that if we didn't already wear glasses that we would by the time we graduated. Sure as hell, I ended up having to get my first pair of glasses mid way through my 2nd year and have been in contacts ever since my 3rd year. Sucks!

I need a pair of readers, but I'm going to get the $10 Walgreens specials.

Places like visionworks that offer the BOGO special usually only include the frame, not the lenses. So you get the frame free, but have to pay for the lenses on the "free" pair. I get my glasses at Costco or Sams. I have bought from both and they are much cheaper than the vision places. Last year I bought two new pair of Oakley frames and lenses for under $300 at Costco with the coupon they occasionally run. Give the optical dept a call and they should be able to quote you a price on lenses.

As mentioned above zenni. I've gotten a few pair and some sunglasses from there too and never had a problem. Even their cheap $7 ones the lenses was great.
