  • vin number help

so without putting to much on the net looking for some info on a car using the VIN. I can pm the vin number as I don't want to get this out of control.

My wife had an accident 2 weeks ago in denton. younger kid in a bmw turned left from the right lane and she hit him. its his fault and we've filed a claim with his insurance. so far his insurance is getting the run around from the kids parents or someone who insures the car. they are saying the car wasn't in an accident and it is 6 hrs from Denton. I have the kids name and the vin #. I just want to make sure all of it matches up. it did have paper plates on it but is an older car. anyone that can help it would be greatly appreciated...really don't want to get burned. only thing I can find googling his name is a 2012 arrest for weed in denton.

DMV charges $5 for a VIN history search.

so far the vin i type in is showing up as nothing. I have the plate # but it was paper plates so not sure how that works. The main thing I'm looking for is owners name and address, will that show up on the dmv report if I am able to figure out why its not taking the vin I have?

from what I can tell a carfax on the dmv.org page won't show ownership, just wreck and maintenance history?

ya a simple wreck turns into a mess. can't get a call back from the insurance company and owner is saying it wasn't their car (it was their 21yr old kids car). its looking to be a mess at this point. I'm just trying to see if I can verify the vin is owned by the same last name as the kid driving. Pisses me off people just can't do the right thing anymore....

It used to be two dollars a car. Thanks a lot./Donny Astricky

Have you talked to your insurance company? That way they can do the footwork and if it falls through then it gets filed on unisured/underinsured motorist(assuming you have that coverage).

I am saving that for a last option but can do that. I want to avoid my deductible and also the claim. I know they say it doesn't count against me but I'm still not sure I believe it. I know for sure if I don't file with mine it won't count so trying that first. Just hoping to do a little research myself first before this thing gets any worse

Was it some fred loya bulls*** where the car had insurance but since he wasn't a listed driver they wont pay out any damages, leaving you to claim uninsured and absorb the new premium+deductible?

starting to sound similar to that....really don't have any info cause the damn people won't call me back. Its been 3 weeks and after 15+ calls from us we've heard back a grand total of 2 times. they are shady as hell and not giving us much info...

I got screwed like that. All state wasn't any help to me. They didn't pursue the driver or their insurance for any damages after ol fred told us to fuck off. How is it legal for them to drive the car since it has insurance (since the police didn't write them any tickets) but they aren't a listed driver. Sounds like you should just bend over and take it up the ass like the rest of us honest drivers.

Surprised nobody commented about the use of "vin number".

Sucks that you are having to go through all of this.. Did your wife get pics of the other car (and hopefully the driver)? That should help prove who was driving, and the car. That's one of the first things anyone should do, especially since most of our phones have decent cameras now. Pics of both cars, wider angle stuff of the area. Make sure to get the plates and try to get the other driver in one of the pics "accidentally".

If you file the claim with your insurance, and they determine the other is at fault, your insurance will subrogate and it should not hurt your premiums. Also, even if your wife is found partially at fault, as long as her "portion" of fault is 49% or less, it should not affect premiums. At least I know that was what has happened with me in the past. After subrogation I was found 30% at fault.

You probably wouldn't have to cover a deductible either.

**Please note - I am not an insurance expert, so first confirm all of this with your agent. They should be able to walk you through all of this, even if you decide not to file on your own insurance.
