  • Satellite/Cable TV alternative

Looks like we met the end of our "deal" with AT&T Uverse. I am curious what other options are out there for getting away from sat/cable TV? I looked a little into AppleTV but I don't know anyone with it personally. I was paying anywhere from $100-130/month for TV and internet with Uverse but this month it cranked up to $180!! Any ideas or tips to get it reduced. We are calling today to see if they'll lower it but if not I want to act fast.

      You have 3 options.

      Amazon Prime, Hulu and Netflix.

Amazon fire TV seems pretty good. Probably getting that one myself.

If you dont have IOS devices, the Apple TV isn't really worth getting. The best streaming device with the most free content will be the Roku.

I currently have Netflix and Amazon Prime for entertainment. I might get Sling TV once it's available. It's $20/month and you get live tv content.

Ditch cable & stream live TV for the best price with Sling. Watch live news, sports, movies, and entertainment + top channels like ESPN, TNT, TBS and more.

Do you happen to know if you get the live TV content with the Amazon Fire TV? It says it has something like 1000 channels, but that looks a bit like an app like netflix. Might not be live... don't know how all this works just yet.

If you have Verizon available, go with them. My BIL just got them and he has their internet that is 50/50 mpbs, crazy fast.

Apple tv would work perfect for you then. If there isn't an app on the Apple TV that you have on your IOS device, you can mirror it to your tv using Apple TV.

If their is live tv available on it, it would have to be with a subscription. I have the fire stick but I haven't really played with it much.

Most of the channels/apps on these streaming devices require some type of subcription (Neflix/Hulu/Watch ESPN/etc). There are free channels like crackle if you want to watch older movies.

If you know someone who has a cable subscription, you can use their login/password info to watch the channels that require a subscription (not all cable providers are available though).

I use my sis's TWC login info to use the WatchESPN app.

Yup. We ditched cable about a year ago and haven't regretted it for a moment. Netflix, Hulu and Amazon are all we use.

So, with Amazon Fire is it a 1 time fee? I can't seem to find a "monthly" rate

We have Apple TV, and primarily watch movies on it, because they are a buck or so cheaper than DirecTV's. I wouldn't want that to be our only source of entertainment though, we mostly watch Disney, Science, Discovery, etc., and not any "series."

I suppose it really depends on your watching habits.
