  • Tow a Crew Cab Truck with a dolly?

Never seen a Crew Cab truck towed with a dolly before so I'm wondering if this is advisable. Going with a buddy of mine to Abilene to pick up a truck that's not running and that's how he's bringing it back. I know he towed his Mustang from South Texas this way with no problems but just never heard or seen a big truck done this way.

I'm sure it can be done, but it's not the safest way to haul one. Longer vehicles tend to become a bit more squirrely on those dollys....especially if the tow vehicle isn't as heavy as the load. No brakes on that thing either...that would make me nervous in itself.

I'm sure there is a weight rating on them. Although I did pass a crew cab 1/2 ton Ford pulling an Escalade down I35.

dont do it in rush hour traffic obv. but i dont see any problem with it, just recognize what you are pulling. i dollied my c10 from alvarado to oak cliff with no issues. you never said what he's pulling it with? equal sized vehicle?

Ya he's towing the Crew Cab with another Crew Cab so similarly size and weight. It's his brother in laws tow dolly and I told him to check and see what the weight rating is for it. Thanks for the info guys.

I was always told using a dolly over long distances would fuck up the tranny and should mainly be used for fwd vehicles. Why not just get a trailer.

He said he disconnects the drive shaft so messing up the tranny I wouldn't think would be an issue. Either way, he's not going to use the dolly now so were good. Thanks.

I have a truck running through Abilene every other week or so. If he is interested in having me pick it up let me know.
