It'd be even better if I had already had a meeting on the calendar with that particular agency, but I don't really have any reason to set one up at the moment.

I found my '92 coupe on ebay in 2003. I worked out a deal with the guy outside of the ebay auction and then bought a round trip airline ticket to Denver (it was actually cheaper to buy a round trip than a one-way - just over $200 IIRC).
Before doing anything, he sent me a ton of pics and a video of the car running. I had him bring the car to the airport to pick me up. Inspected it, drove it around, decided it was a solid car, paid the man and headed home.
On the way home, one of the exhaust pipes split clean in two right in front of the muffler (I got lucky and found a welding shop owner having coffee at a diner in a tiny town early on a Sunday morning), the AC quit blowing cold and I found a transmission leak. I'd guess any of that could happen with a used car though.
I sold a CRX to a guy that drove from somewhere in Kentucky to buy it from my craigslist ad. When he got to my house, he lowballed me. I politely told him he could turn around and drive home without the car or he could pay the asking price. You should've negotiated before driving all day and night, douche bag.

I drove to Houston to pick up an SVO from a board member 12 years ago. He was really honest and up front with me about the car, and I didnt have any issues other than it was an SVO."If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." - Henry Ford

I was going to get him to ship the car, but I wanted to see it first and was more than prepared to come home empty handed.
