Vacaville's about 45 minutes from me, I've got a big client out that way. I'm not offering to go look or anything, just adding useless info to the thread.

The trick is asking the right questions and knowing what to expect. That being said I have had more good transactions then bad luckily. Just be very up front about the whole situation over the phone.

I've only done it through eBay. It was pretty easy.

In seriousness, if you haven't figured it out by this weekend, I'll see if I can talk the mrs. into heading to the outlet malls out there to do some shopping.

It'd be even better if I had already had a meeting on the calendar with that particular agency, but I don't really have any reason to set one up at the moment.

I bought a used 06 Corvette out of Wisconsin, but it was through a dealership. I flew up with a cashiers check from my bank, car was as described so I drove it the 1300 miles back home. Going up I was fully prepared to buy a ticket back home if anything was wrong with the car.

Bought an 05 corvette from Cali in 09 and had it delivered to me at work.

Also just bought a 2015 mustang GT from grapevine ford through email a few weeks ago.

I found my '92 coupe on ebay in 2003. I worked out a deal with the guy outside of the ebay auction and then bought a round trip airline ticket to Denver (it was actually cheaper to buy a round trip than a one-way - just over $200 IIRC).

Before doing anything, he sent me a ton of pics and a video of the car running. I had him bring the car to the airport to pick me up. Inspected it, drove it around, decided it was a solid car, paid the man and headed home.

On the way home, one of the exhaust pipes split clean in two right in front of the muffler (I got lucky and found a welding shop owner having coffee at a diner in a tiny town early on a Sunday morning), the AC quit blowing cold and I found a transmission leak. I'd guess any of that could happen with a used car though.

I sold a CRX to a guy that drove from somewhere in Kentucky to buy it from my craigslist ad. When he got to my house, he lowballed me. I politely told him he could turn around and drive home without the car or he could pay the asking price. You should've negotiated before driving all day and night, douche bag.

I've purchased a corvette from out of state, but I knew the history of the car and purchased it from a loyal member who had plenty of references.
I was going to get him to ship the car, but I wanted to see it first and was more than prepared to come home empty handed.

I had a dude from midland that kept lowballing me on a car,I declined and then said he would come buy it the next day. I sold the car, and he called me an lowballed me again, this time saying he was only an hour away. I was half tempted to have him come and tell him I sold it for more than his lowball offer. I told him it was sold, never heard from him again.

I drove to Houston to pick up an SVO from a board member 12 years ago. He was really honest and up front with me about the car, and I didnt have any issues other than it was an SVO.
