Thinking about becoming a pilot

Anyone on here a pilot and could possibly give me some pointers/advice?

I'm 31 and in accounting/IT, but my heart isn't really in it. I've always wanted to be a pilot since I was a kid, but the opportunity was just never there. I wanted to go into the military at one point, but my Mom steered me away and I went to college and got my degree.

I have a friend who flies for American Airlines right now and he's told me to go to Monarch Air in Addison to see if it's for me/get instruction.
