A Texas state transport bus carrying prisoners between Abilene and El Paso ran off a bridge Wednesday, tumbling onto a passing train below, killing 10 people, authorities said.
Ector County Sheriff Mark Donaldson said the dead included eight prisoners and two prison officers, the*Odessa-Americareports.
There were 15 people on board the bus, which was operated by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The crash occurred near the town of Penwell.
Sgt. Elizabeth Barney with the Texas Department of Public Safety also confirmed the number of fatalities.
Donaldson said the bus went off an icy bridge, fell into the middle of the moving train.
