Why does the government have to make things so difficult?

Randy (bottlefedstang) is trying to put up a fence but our permit was denied because they have our zoning wrong. They wont admit that they are wrong and have us zoned as SF8.4 meaning we have 8400sqft lot or smaller. We have an acre (43,500sqft). Our appraisal says SFLD, their interactive map says we are zoned SFLD yet they wont fix the problem. We may have to petition the city council to fix our zoning. What a pain in the ass.

Because they dont pay worth a fuck, and you damned near cant get fired. They dont employ people with brains, and nobody is willing to go out of their way to actually think and do the job they are supposed to.

Update... FML

So their paperwork back from the last update in 1992 shows the old SF8.4 zoning. No matter what my survey or appraisal said, no matter that I have the requirements to meet SFLD, I have to apply for a rezoning permit, wait a month and Feb 17 the city council will meet and approve it.

The good news is, the people at the city hall were actually really nice. The planning/zoning manager said I shouldnt have any trouble rezoning as a couple other neighbors recently have and a guy across the street just left trying to do the same.

So I have to submit about 2-3 permits on average a week to different cities around the country. I could tell you stories you wouldn't believe about the permitting folks. There are a few good ones but most of them are fat lazy fucks doing the absolute least amount of work to justify their paycheck.

I'm battling one in a Denver suburb right now that we built to the stated Denver codes for our project. He verbally approved our design but changed his mind at paperwork for permit time. I probably have to fly up there and attend a council meeting and plead my case since we've already built and the client is waiting.

I got to deal with fire marshals doing that same thing way back in the day. Submit plans, get approval, install everything, they come in for the inspection and tell us 60% of it needs to change. Showing the guy that signed the approval and plans his own signature didnt ever seem to make any difference, either.

Fire Marshals are a whole different ball game. Our business supports multi-family construction and last year we had a project that went $20K+ over on their original bid from us (<70k) because they made a fire marshal mad.

We specialized in life safety and mainly worked with assisted living and nursing homes. I was just out of high school, and working on getting a slew of licensing so the company didnt have to lease them from someone else. That particular project I got to work with the architect and planners, so I saw first hand what everyone was always complaining about. In the end, I bought a bunch of books and did a lot of studying only to get laid off a month before the tests.
