    3.5L Ecoboost - 365 hp @ 5,000 rpm - 420 lb-ft @ 2,500 rpm

    6.5L Turbo Diesel - 215 hp @ 3,200 rpm - 440 lb-ft. @ 1,800 rpm

So yeah, that dinky little 3.5L has a ton more HP and slightly less peak torque than my 3/4 ton diesel chevy. Don't think towing is going to be an issue.

V8 wont go away it will become a special order item. That way its not a production model, and less issues with CAFE.

going to v6 also helps avoid some European and Asian import issues.

That's not how modern manufacturing works.

At the very least, there will be a couple of decades worth of support for what's on the road now. I shudder to think there will ever be an America where all 57 Chevy's (or whatever, pick your favorite classic car) are boat anchors because you can't get a gallon of gas.
I'm sure you will still be able to buy an alternative fuel like 100% ethanol or even E85. Older cars like your 57 Chevy would need a conversion kit but it would be doable. Heck, now that I think of it, a Natural Gas or methane conversion would be even more doable for very old cars. You wouldn't get the power of gasoline but perhaps the real concern should be to just keep these old cars around. Besides, their will be hella fast electric cars to satisfy a need for speed.

I agree with you. Agencies need to be pulled back in.

                      I just bought a 2015 f250 4x4 6.7 with 3.55. So far its showing 16.2mpg whereas my 2012 fx4 5.0 f150 3.73 only avg 14mpg

                          KCMO SUCKS dicks...

The supercrew 4x4 ecoboost trucks struggle to get 14-15... 5.0 seems to do much better real world.

I was reading somewhere that after ford went aluminum on the 15's that they are not much lighter than the GM trucks. Can anyone confirm that? If GM goes aluminum they will again have better MPGs

Ours is a 2012. 18.3 is the average the last time I checked it.

GM trucks have been lighter than Ford trucks for a long time. An article I read recently in MT (I think) compared the Tundra, Silverado High Country, Ram Laramie, and the Ford F150 platinum. I think the aluminum Ford was less than 100lbs lighter than the Silverado.

                                Ford calls bullshit:

A Ford official vehemently denied a report proclaiming the death of the V8 engine in the Mustang and F-150 models after 2017.

The article from Horsepower Kings quoted an unnamed Ford representative as stating the following:

"Ford is definitely phasing out the V8 motor altogether. CAFE and EPA are working very hard discreetly to make sure of that. There is quite a bit going on at Ford that the public is in the dark about. The impression that I am getting is that Ford wants to continue it’s V8 program, but things have (rather recently) taken a new direction, presumably from CAFE/EPA pressure in mid to late 2013."

We spoke to Ford Global Powertrain Technology Communications Manager, Paul Seredynski, who told us that there's "No basis of truth in that report".

We also asked him a few more questions about Ford's engine plans and choices:

CS: Is there a future for Ford's V8s in today's Eco-minded world, and if so, what does it look like?

PS: The V-8 still plays an important role in our product lineup, having just launched the new 5.0-liter V-8 in the 2015 Mustang, and we’ve also announced another upcoming new V-8 – the flat-plane 5.2-liter – in the GT350 and GT350R.

CS: Will we see a production EcoBoost V8?

PS: We do not discuss future product

CS: Why did you go with an EcoBoost V6 on the new GT and the Raptor?

PS: The compact nature (along with its exceptional power density) of the EcoBoost V-6 in the all new Ford GT was a key factor that allowed the exceptionally narrow rear canopy, a key design and aerodynamic element of the car. The EcoBoost engine in the all-new Raptor will produce more power and torque than the 6.2-liter V-8 it replaces with improved efficiency.

                                * CS= CarScoops , PS= Paul Seredynski
