  • Convinced the wife to move out of the subdivision to some acreage.

Ive been wanting to not live 15 feet from my neighbor for years, but the wife liked that it was close to everything, and not out in the "boonies". We compromised, and bought a house in a subdivision on a tiny lot.

I mentioned that there were some pretty nice places around where my best friend just bought, and she dismissed that we cant afford to live out there. We have a lot of equity in our house, and I showed her what we could afford (pretty close to the same payment as we've had) if we put down most of the equity, and what our house was valued at. She's in.

I'm still surprised that she was even willing to talk about it. Not only is she willing, she's looking at houses that 5 years ago she wouldnt have thought about once. We've got some stuff to do on ours to get it ready to sell, and should be on the market in the springtime.

Im pretty excited, wanted to boast.

Congrats buddy. Working on the same myself. Everything is still very much up in the air at this point though.

                congrats Deej

I love living in the country. I'm actually just outside of city limits. Just two minutes down the road, I have all the amenities that a shitty city of 25,000 people that's located 20-30min south of Houston can offer.

With that said, we have been looking at stuff in town. I would love something else in the country, but wouldn't mind buying a project in town that we could live in for a while, remodel, and rent out later.

I have no plans to get rid of the shack in the country. While the house leaves much to be desired, the property and location is just fucking stellar for the amount of money we've got in it.

I would not have survived the past 4yrs if we had bought something in a little subdivision w/ zero lot lines.

And thankfully it has trained the wife to really appreciate the country and to apply just as much hate as I do to tightly packed neighborhoods. If we buy something in town, it will be 1/4-1/2 acre in an older, established neighborhood.

sorry for the therapist's couch session on my part! LOL

This is nothing new, Ive brought it up frequently since we first started looking to move out of the apartment when we first got together. I think "the kids could go outside to play without worrying about them running out in the street and getting hit by a car" was the argument that sealed the deal.

I laugh at guys that say "I got this new phone for my wife" since it sounds like a good trade.

Congrats! I'm in the opposite boat, my wife really wants acreage in the country but I like being able to walk across the street to a bar/restaurant.

If you are looking to build make sure to figure in for utilities. Between road, power, water and septic I have an additional $30k invested.

Theres lots of place like that in the city. I would have done it when i was looking but with me working all over DFW, i did not want to make 2 hour drive to work.

My wife is on board with getting out of town a ways, and there are some amazing lots in this area, BUT (big but) we have a 12-year old that needs/wants to be close to her school and friends for now.

For now I'll just live vicariously through y'all, and continue to be thankful for having a corner lot at least.

                            That's awesome.

We can't exactly go too far right now, but the wife and I definitely agree that we'll be moving to the mountains one day, no questions or excuses. Colorado / Utah / Nevada.

My wife is still convinced she will get ax murdered if we move to the country. We have a nice house in town in a good neighborhood, but I hate being in town. We just moved here anyways, so even if she decided the country was a good idea it would not make sense financially. Plus I fucking hate packing and moving and since we just did it I would admittedly not be as excited. She did give me the ok to buy my own land to go play on, but I would rather just pay the house down/off at this point. This is her dream house and she is convinced she will die here in old age.
I don't like Republicans, but I really FUCKING hate Democrats.
