  • LT Tires (again)

Yes, I've read the threads in the past, and they didn't really address my situation.

I need new tires. I have sworn by the Michelin LTX AT2s for years. One set went 70,000, another went 78,000. I've seen claims of people getting 80 and 90,000 miles out of them. They wear great, are quiet as can be, etc.

My dilemma is that I need a more aggressive tread pattern for the farm. 90% or more of my driving is highway, but I just got stuck a few times my last trip up. We had 3" of snow, ground was wet, etc. I was on dirt roads each time I got stuck, and while dirt, they are maintained, so I shouldn't have had trouble like I did. The tires I got stuck with were Goodyear Wrangler HPs (OE I believe), and close to the end of their life. IMO, the LTX AT2 doesn't have an aggressive enough tread pattern for what I need now. In fact, most tires in the category I'm looking at (on/off road) don't, in my opinion.

I don't need a strictly off road tire. Truck is not 4wd, not lifted, not leveled, nor do I want it to be. I just don't want to run the risk of getting stuck again.

These Goodyears are the best rated tire in that category on tirerack, have the best reviews, and have what I think I need in the way of tread pattern. Has anyone used these? Anyone have any other suggestions? Another problem is that Discount doesn't sell these, so locating them locally could be an issue.

For the record, I need 275/60/R20

Which Wranglers did you have? There's a ton of variations on the Wrangler.

These are rated at the top on noise level, which would be nice. I hate loud tires, but know I'm going to have to sacrifice a little.

            Again, not aggressive enough.

Ive been quite impressed with the Nitto Terra Grappler's that Ive had on my truck. They are pretty quiet, good traction on the street, and the tread design cleans itself out pretty well in mud. I went through a creek bed into my buddy's pasture in 2wd, it was wet but not a mud hole, and he didnt believe that I didnt have it it 4wd until I showed him my missing front drive shaft.

Man, I loved the falken rocky mountain ATs I had on my fx4. I took that truck off road, in the snow, mud etc and never had an issue. They were relatively inexpensive at the time.

Those get loud as shit around 50% tread life.

Im well past that and havent noticed, though my truck is loud as hell anyway.

Still much quieter than the Goodyear mud tires and all terrains Ive had.

I'd believe that. Staying on top of rotations seems to really help too.

I'm right at 45k miles on my current nitto grapplers and expect to get at least another 10k out of them before I replace them. They are just as quiet as the stock bfg trails that came off my truck and actually seem to ride better. I doubt you'd ever get 70k miles out of a set but they are definitely more of an off road tire than the Michelin AT2.

I thought all Nitto tires were 35,000 mile tires?

Doesn't solve the problem. We are 2 miles off the highway, down a dirt road. 4 wheel drive may help on property, but it doesn't get me to/from.
