Well, my uverse went off yesterday and I picked up two roku3 boxes. My old lady subscribed to Hulu and so far it looks to be better than the sling. I though the shows on sling would be on demand. The only reason I wanted sling tv was to watch King of the Hill on adult swim but that shit comes on too late. Look like I won't be renewing.

For the past few years I've had a rabbit ear antenna for TV. Added a Roku last fall and have enjoyed it almost daily since. It did take a while to learn to find what we wanted to watch but we really like it. We recently added an Amazon Fire for the downstairs TV and moved the antenna to the attic. The Fire was definetly an upgrade over the Roku as was moving the antenna.

With the antenna in the attic run to the splitter in the garage the connections to the house wiring are all the same as previously used for cable. No connections to change from device to device. I got lucky when looking around and noticed a coil of RG-6 with no connection hanging from the rafters. Some checking around led to the discovery of the other end of that cable coiled up at the splitter box for incoming cable from the street. Just made the connections.

As for subscriptions, Amazon Prime is a no brainer as the $99 annual fee pays for itself with free shipping on the items we purchase on Amazon. Hulu & Netflix total about $20 per month. Compare that to some of the cable bills posted in this thread for a substantial annual savings. Works for us but we are not television junkies. There is plenty to watch with almost everything being free or included in the subscription. I would like to see some of the cable channels that I like to watch such as History, Military, A&E, Discovery go ala carte, it seems like this is the way that some of them will have to go in the near future.

For sports, I do love watching the NFL games and have found that most of the games that I want to watch are available for free over the air. The broadcasts are in HD and the picture is much better than what we had with cable. Monday night games on ESPN have been missed but I've worked that out when necessary by watching the game at a friend's house or hitting up a sports bar.

Cable free and I have no intention of ever going back to paying a cable bill. I do not want to do without high speed internet though.

So what are some good free channels on Roku? I got one last week but haven't really watched it yet. So far added Crackle,

I'm almost done watching all my DVR'd shows before cutting DirecTv (still have season 4 of Shameless and a couple others I want to watch). Should be calling DirecTv to cancel by next weekend!

The only thing I'll miss is FX, they have some kick-ass shows. Justified in it's final season too, so I'll miss the last few episodes of it. Not sure how FX Now will work, just added that channel. Does this mean you pay for what you wanna download?

FXNOW is an on-demand video service providing the biggest and best lineup of critically acclaimed dramas, hit comedies and blockbuster movies from 3 networks, FX, FXX and FXM.For any questions or comments relating to FXNOW, please contact fxnow.support@fxnetworks.com

Edit: You have to have a paid service and login to get a login with FX and watch shit, so once I drop DirecTv, I'd no longer be able to watch shit. It's like Showtime Go, only available for watching if you already watch at home, but aint home...

By mid april you will no longer be able to get any type of cable without a digital adapter box. I've been installing a lot of them. They will cost about $3 a month.

TWC has crawlers across most of their channels in Temple warning of this. They give you one digital adapter with the $10 starter package. It has 22 channels, two of which are in Spanish, two QVC ones, a weather channel, some local access bulletin board, one blank one and another that has the TWC logo. So really it's 15 channels, I actually got more than that with OTA so I'll probably be ditching the service soon.

The good news is that when they do kill all the analog channels they'll switch us to the better internet packages. My speed should go from 20-200 meg service.

Got the official email saying we're canceled!

                      Dear LYN,

We regret that you decided to cancel your DIRECTV service. Your DIRECTV service was disconnected on 3/17/2015 12:00:00 AM per your request.

Went to best Buy and got another Roku stick and hooked it to the TV in the bedroom, got my OTA hooked up to the splitter and all 3 TV's get the local channels. Pretty much done for now! Sling and Hulu will be added eventually, but satisfied for now!

So far, I am NOT missing DirecTv. Got a letter today saying we will get a check back with the credit they owe us.

Crazy how much better local channels look with the OTA antenna, damn compressed signal form providers... Still have not subscribed to Hulu Plus, but with local, Netflix, Amazon and Sling, I am set pretty good. And the Roku stick has some cool stuff, and I finally got around to messing with the Smart TV apps, and added some new channels to it also. Nice using 1 remote for 80% of my viewing. (Roku remote sucks)
