OK guys I need your help with a couple things

    OK guys I need your help with a couple things

    First I was asked to speak at Mikes Memorial. I honestly am nervous on what to say. How long I should speak for and what is the right things to touch on. My idea thus far is describe some of my fond memories with Mike. I also am looking for more material. I have thought about maybe pulling up some of Mikes old posts and reading a couple posts that I thought would put a picture in everyones head how Mike was to us all here on the board

    I also have been asked that any of you guys who have pics of Mike with yall. Please post up in this thread those pics as the family want to create a slide show at Mike Memorial.

    My next question is what investment will yield the best return for Mikes Boys as I am not financial guru and need help in this matter. I also want to set this up where only the boys can access the funds and only after the funds have matured in these accounts.

    Any input and pics and any material for my speech would be appreciated

    Hard to say on what is right for time. If it was me, I would keep it short because I always keep it short, and I would spend my time to talk about why he was my friend and what he did. Mention the things he did for people. Such as the comments on the thread about willing to spend money to rent a chainsaw to come help someone, doing roofing work for people without compensation, driving to Moore multiple times with supplies and things of that nature.

    I don't have any pictures as I am not the picture kind of guy. I never take pics of friends and hanging out. All of mine are for some specific purpose that once done could be deleted.

    As far as investment, I am the wrong guy for that.

      Short and meaningful is my preference. My speech at my brothers funeral was short, but if I could change it...I would take some of the bitterness out of my voice towards the bitch who killed him. It did nothing to celebrate his life.

        No help on the "investment" part, but as to your speech: Keep it short, just a few minutes is plenty. Pick out 3-4 positive memories / examples of his good deeds you have of him, the more personal the better. Finish with positive wishes for his family, and exit gracefully.

        Remember, this isn't a sales pitch or corporate thing, so don't feel like it has to be really polished. Just speak from the heart and it will come across to the audience.

          I would keep it to 3 minutes tops...and just some highlights of past positive experiences and maybe funny ones as well.

            Seb, I'll find you at the service or at the meet before. Basically just have someone we trust (Suzy?) setup a 529. Whoever establishes it will control those funds. We'll talk about investment options as well. I'll give my contact info to whomever we decide controls the funds. I'm assuming it'll be the boys' mother.

              I don't want to be negative here, but do you think any monies donated would go better for helping the family NOW with funeral expenses, etc..?

              I now the college fund thing is noble, but trust me, with one in college now, it's running about $5,000 per semester for the dorm and meal plan, and that's not even mentioning tuition. If you plan to raise $3k per kid, that won't go very far.

              I know the family would be appreciative of the college route, but losing the main provider has to be devastating. I'm sure they could use the money now.

              Sorry if this offends anyone, just trying to be practical.

                There's already a funeral expense account going. Maybe we see how that goes? With the consent of all those who donated, of course.

                            funeral costs run around 15-20k with head stone and plot depending on where he's buried and the service is held
