Damn. I guess I'm a grinch. I've never bought my son any electronics whatsoever. It's always been clothes and things he needed. I'd get him leggos or toys like that. I save the video game stuff for his birthday. Even then it's rare, I've maybe only bought him like a total of 5 games since he was 6. His mom on the other hand has always been quick to spoil the shit out of him. Even when it interfered with his school work, he asks he gets it. Ps4, xbox, psp vita, laptop, 6 different cell phones, Gameboy, ps3. Im not saying I can't afford these for him, im just not going to shell out the $$ that easily. All he does is sit in front of his tv playing games, glued to his phone constantly. When he's with me I have him give me his phone because he stays glued to it. I make him be active instead because he sure as hell isn't at his home with all that shit in his room. So no, I don't believe in getting children ipads, iPhone, laptops or things of that nature at such a young age. But we live in a different age now. My way of thinking is becoming obsolete.

We bought my 6 yr old a kindle last year. She gets to play it when we are going to town or on a road trip. During the winter when it gets dark early we will let her play it after a shower and before bed if she was good. But we limit how much time she gets to play it. Mostly though she likes to play with the notes to type letters and sentences. Its funny if we head into town and she gets bored, she will ask if she can type on our phones. But otherwise im usually outside and she will be out there riding her bike or scooter and playing with the neighbor kids.

Some of the kid apps on the Ipad and phone will help them learn a lot.

I buy my boy what he wants and I do kind of let him decide how long to play the Ipad. He stays on it longer then I ever would but it isn't excessive. It has also got him interested in geography here lately.

I love all of the learning apps. Who has time to teach these shits how to count or read?

My 5 year old has crazy eye hand coordination from playing on an ipad. I let him sit down at the PC the other day and I turned on MW3 and after about 15 minutes of him getting the hang of it he was murdering people. He has zero strategy skills but if its just him and another person straight up point and shoot he is hard to beat. I remember playing the original zelda when I was like 8 and being lost as fuck with that game.
