plates on your inventory vehicles. One of the
responsibilities of a licensee is to make sure
plates are accounted for at all times. Also,

Most importantly, licensees are required to
keep a log of all metal plates issued to them.
The log must identify the metal plate number;
the make of the vehicle; the vehicle
identification number; and the name of the
person in control of the vehicle. Any plates
not in use must be kept in a secure place.
E-TAGS
With the advent of Vision 21 (V21), dealers
and converters are required by law to have
Internet access at their place of business in
order to issue temporary tags. Specific
numbers for temporary tags are obtained
from V21 and tags are issued by the licensee
either by printing out images from V21 or
copying the number and forms from the
images on the computer screen. All tags will
have a unique number assigned to them by
the V21 database. When the licensee logs on
to V21 and receives the number after filling in
the vehicle and buyer information, the
number will be logged or recorded on V21 in
a manner that will allow a licensee to locate
the tag at any given time. Licensees have the
ability to void tags, reprint tags if necessary
and to manage tags by running reports from
V21 on their own tag activity. All dealers must
use the electronic tag feature and all sales
must have an e-tag produced.
All current licensed dealers and converters
qualify for a user ID and password to access

the agent tags are used generally to pick up a car or take it to the shop, etc before they are for sale on the lot. EX: that car may have been just bought from the auction, and hasnt had a demonstrator tag on it.

We have agent tags that we use for cars we are getting ready for sale so we can take them to get tires put on, inspected, etc.

Once they are inspected and ready for sale, they have a temp tag that has the VIN and and expiration date on them printed from the state's site.

Then when purchased, a buyers tag is created.

Sorry I was in a hurry when I posted that, I had to go move some furniture. I was scanning over that little section from the DMV looking for the other area you guys highlighted, because I know the inspection and registration laws very well, but had to go.

I can not see that tag well enough to see exactly what kind of tag it is but I will tell you that most of those tags are abused like no other. It says zero personal use but people drive those things around, run errands, etc etc, like they are immune to being stopped because it says dealer tag on it. Same way with temp tags, a lot of people think that because you have a temp tag you can drive around with a expired inspection and I figured that's where Tali was going with that first sentence, and there are differences in dealer tags. Also not once did I say I agreed or disagreed with the stop, so don't assume either way. I actually just watched it enough to see the guy go to the ground with him. I didn't realize he tazed him also. It is a shame there is no audio to see why the stop went the direction it did. I will tell you that a lot of officers do not get the differences in those tags. What is really messed up is the state said about 5 years ago they were going to do some very strict enforcement on those things and that they would only issue a certain few types and in a certain way. Not sure what happened but I have seen those things printed and issued probably fifty ways.

It is not uncommon for cops to not understand the temp tag thing. I had Rockwall Police stop me in my Mustang and swear up down I was a liar and it must have stolen paper tags, let us search your car etc. etc. They wouldn't quit until I pulled out the Tax Office Receipt with all the fine print on it.

Why is it always the schwartz get to drive around in these temp tags all the time? Is the tag tied to the vehicle? We had some little assholes driving along side us in the parking lot at Six Flags chunking pennies at our car. They had the temp tag and I wondered if it was even worth taking down to report them. They sped out of the parking lot before I could catch up to them.
