  • Salvaged Title

What are your thoughts on purchasing a vehicle with a salvaged title? Came across a 2008 Chevy Truck Quad Cab 4x4 with 67K miles and guy wants $14000. Here is his post from Craigslist.

2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Z71. Has 6" rough country lift, 20" ballistic rims with new 35" Toyo open country tires, Fab Four front and rear bumpers with remote control winch, 7" kenwood touch screen with Bluetooth, 2 1000 watt sony explode amps, 2 kicker 12s under the back seat in custom box, K & N cold air intake, magnaflow exhaust, tuxedo bed cover. Truck is in good condition, runs and drives as it should. A/C blows cold. It does have a damaged title due to the truck being stolen and not recovered until insurance had already paid out the previous owner. It had a bent rim and blown tire. Both have been replaced.

I wouldn't buy it just because of the Rough Country Lift.

Unless you plan on driving it until the wheels fall off, I wouldn't give more than 30% of it's value if it were a clean title.

You won't be able to finance it (auto loan), you can't get full coverage on it and if you experience a loss on it, accident, theft, etc, they will treat it as a salvage vehicle with no value.

BTW, a GF of mine years back bought a "theft recovery" salvage title car. It was recovered from the bottom of a lake.

Is it a "rebuilt" salvage title? I know for a fact that the insurance covers it like a normal clear title car and you can get a loan on it. Also, you can register it for dirt cheap. Just make sure it's been properly repaired and not a slap together job. If it's very very clean, low ball him.

Good luck on ever selling it. I've owned a couple of recon and salvage vehicles, only 1 that I ever drove for any amount of time. Unless you're turning them for profit, which is what I was doing with 2 exceptions, they really aren't worth the hassle.

Would not touch it unless it was free.

You gotta trust the person who did the rebuild, most the times its illegals rigging shit up to sell it.

My son bought a "salvage" title car. Like most here said, he paid about 30% of the value of the same car non-salvage. All of the work was done (hit in the right front) and the inspection was done. This is needed to change it from salvage to re-built.
I may have some things a bit wrong, you guys with much more experience than I have correct me if I am wrong.

The blue title he has now in his name says re-built. Has full coverage insurance. He did get turned down to drive for Uber because of the re-built title.

Other than that, the car is very nice and drives great! Outstanding value for the money. Cars are the worst investment anyways. I would not hesitate given the right car.

I just wouldn't s rew with it unless it was your only option.

He's smoking crack like most of the CL suckers. That's just under the value of a clear titled truck. Maybe even right at it, if you look hard enough.

Bought my wife a 06 suburban in 06 from Charlie (USA) that was a theft recovery. It had no interior but just had 2k miles on it. We got an interior out of a wreck with 6k on it and she drove it for 4 years without any issues. I had 15k in it and sold it for 5k cash with a ton of miles on it.

I looked at a Platinum, F250 7.3 Turbo, 4x4 a while back. Guy said he bought it from the dealership like that and it was a theft recovery with no issues. He said they only had to put some interior back in it and there was no body damage. The fucking front axle had salvage yard numbers on the pumpkin, the hood didn't line up, and the right front headlight was fiber glassed in place. He said he had no idea and has owned it 5 years. That damn thing had to have taken a pretty good hit on the LFQ at some point.
