Gonna try and get back in myself but after the new year. The bowling alley in Euless has some weekday special. Miss my black widow ball.

Glad that I'm not the only one that throws a lighter ball. I can throw a 15lbs ball, but it tires me out. My comfort zone is a 12-13lbs ball. Didn't realize what goes into the equipment, I have been bowling with a spare ball from the 80's, has absolutely no hook to it. Went looking for a new one and there are about 300 options.

Score is machine kept and lanes seem like every other place I've been to, but the best part.... All summer long was $1 a game everyday. Right now I believe it's 1.50 before 5pm and 2.50 after that. $1 all day sunday

Hell yeah, that sounds much better. Thinking that I will be switching my lanes. How crowded is it usually?

From what little I have read, it seems ball technology has really improved. Some guy up at the Superbowl rolled a 899 series. Hung a 10 pin on his last shot. I had never ever heard of anything like that years back. Yes, you would see the occaisional 300, but wow. Closest I ever came was an 11 in a row, but I hung a 10 on the first ball so was a 279 game.
Guess I'll go do a little trolling to see what ball to buy. I had neck surgery a few years back, hope that doesn't give me trouble.

Yea that was Bill Fong, he actually had a heart attack right after he bowled that cause all of the adrenaline. But call or go to the pro shop at AMF Lewisville and talk to Tyson. He will hook you up. I prefer mostly hammer and Brunswick products. Storm and Track stuff are shit now.

Cool thanks. When I last bowled, I had a U dot I think. I was throwing the 5-10 board most days.
Have they changed the lane preperation much or is it pretty much the same game ? We bowled the late shift so it was always a little drier.

The only big difference are the oil machines are more consistent.

Anything lighter than 14lb typically has a modified version of the core or a completely generic pancake weight block in order to keep the ball legal. You're bowling with an inferior product 95% of the time, the other 5% are when the ball has a terrific cover stock that makes the ball.

Again, been bowling with a spare ball from the 80's, not hooking the ball in the slightest and I am still bowling 170's. The one that I am looking at getting has the generic core up to 11lbs, then switches at 12lbs.

I guess me getting a bowling ball is like a newb trying to buy a tennis racket. Shit ton of options that don't make any sense to the uninitiated, but are critical to the experienced player.

I'd get 14# at minimum, it's still manageable and carries more energy than a 12# ball.

I have 26 or 27 bowling balls. Seriously. They're addictive.

I usually don't have to worry about energy since I probably throw the fastest ball in the alley, but I will look into it. Next time I go, I will try a 14lbs house ball and see how my arm holds out.

I bet you tend to leave weak wash outs and baby splits later in the game. Speed ain't shit. I regularly get my spare ball going 21-22mph on single pin pickups but only throw 17ish on strikes. If you can't get the ball to turn on its axis fully before it enters the pocket it isn't releasing energy and isn't doing its job.

I like CGs kicked out and the pin drilled over my ring finger. It promotes a stronger, later flip on the rotational axis once the ball breaks after exiting the oil pattern. TheHead throws about 1-2mph faster than I do but he gets a few more revs: he drills his stacked (pin beside the ring finger and the CG under it) typically to make the ball turn over a bit faster and promotes less skid/snap for more control over the ball's reaction down lane.

Point being, I'd rather have a more controlled speed and a strong move into the pocket and drill my gear accordingly. A heavier ball will do that for you and will certainly improve your consistency.
