  • Is everything bought off Amazon junk?

I used to buy my printer cartridges for the office off Amazon, loved the ease & simplicity of it.

Then I bought some monogrammed sheets for my girl's beds, the "twin" was somewhere larger than a twin, looks sloppy.

I'm looking at J. A. Henckels knives, and different colognes, and the 1 star reviews on them all say the same thing; ex: knives rust, come dull, upc codes don't match, block not cut right, etc. Cologne reviewers say "watered down, doesn't last 30 minutes".

Mind you, there are lots of 5 star reviews, but the 1 star reviews being so consistent, I'm wondering if anyone else has had poor experiences first hand?
Ronald Reagan:"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."

Homer: "Bart...there's 2 things I know about women. Never give them nicknames like "jumbo" or "boxcar" and always keep receipts...it makes you look like a business man."

We have had prime for several years and haven't really had any issues. Most of our Christmas shopping is done from Amazon, as well as a bunch other throughout the year. They sell the same stuff that you buy in the stores, which is all they are, a store. They don't make the products.

Now, you do have to watch to make sure the order is being fulfilled by Amazon and not another retailer. We usually only buy stuff being sold by Amazon as their customer service is solid (and for the free 2 day shipping).

I would not recommend Henckels, just FYI. I've had both US made and German made and they suck.

When using Amazon, you have tone able to weed out the shit reviews. For instance, it's pretty obvious to me when someone is being unreasonable. I also immediately dismiss negative reviews that are written by dumbasses. Grammar or spelling errors are glaring signs to ignore.

Overall, I've had great luck with Amazon. The only thing I've bought that I wasn't happy with was a set of Egyptian cotton sheets.

I have pretty good luck with stuff I've purchased from Amazon.

I do look & pay attention to the reviews pretty closely before buying.

I use Amazon constantly, and use it as a benchmark if I'm looking at something to buy from somewhere else. Off the top of my head, I've only had a couple of minor issues through thousands and thousands of dollars worth of transactions, and they've always taken care of it quickly. I love Amazon. It keeps me from having to go out and deal with the mouthbreathers of the world. About the only thing I go out and shop for any more is groceries.

Everything on amazon is top quality same as stores. If a problem exists no company has better customer service than amazon.

I searched for Wusthof knives, similar statements:

              [ame]http://www.amazon.com/product-reviews/B003MU9F74/ref=acr_dpx_hist_1?ie=UTF8&filterBy=addOneStar&sho wViewpoints=0[/ame]

(not to be annoying about it, but here's a sample)

1:Buyer beware. the Gourmet line deceptively looks like the Classic line from the picture, but it's far inferior. Much lighter and thinner. The blade only partially goes through the handle so the handle is part of the structure of the knife not just a grip. And it's plastic and unlikely to last like the Classic. You might have thought you were getting deal, buying the set at what seemed half the price. But at best they are worth half the price and probably not even that

2:Having owned 4 sets of Wusthof knives in my life, I am about 99% sure that these are fakes. They are rusting after being used less than two weeks. They are also flimsy and not built like Wusthof knives are typically built. They will not balance in your hand. The labels looked like they were printed on an inkjet printer. I will be returning these ASAP for a FULL refund.
It's unbelievable to me that two of the steak knives would rust after washing them three times. I bought these knives to replace Henkels that I've had for nearly 10 years, which have never rusted.

3:BE WARNED: The return policy is terrible!!! My $235 Wusthof Santoku broke (chip in the center blade) and I sent it back to Wusthof hoping they would send me another replacement assuming a $235 knife that is a part of my $2K set would be replaced with no questions asked. The customer service agent called me to inform me it is not a “manufacture default” therefore they could either resend me back my broken knife or give me 50% off to replace it! Wow all I can say I will NEVER purchase another knife from Wusthof ever again!

4:Very unhappy with this purchase. Unfortunately, I didn't get to use the knives until a few months after I bought them. The knife tips were slightly bent, but the main displeasure is the knives are not sharp. I would expect more out of Wusthof's, I almost think these are knock offs. I have sharpened several of them a few times, and they just don't hold the sharp. Very disappointed.

5:When I received the box - the outside box was in perfect condition. The Wusthof box however looked like the bottom had been eaten through by an animal and torn. Not what I want to give as a gift - and certainly not what I was expecting from Wusthof.

6:Lightweight and flimsy compared to other Wusthof sets I have owned, leading me to believe that these may be fake / imitation Wusthof knives. Buyer beware

Again, Amazon is just a retailer, they don't make the knives. In fact, some of those were likely not even sold by Amazon, but another vendor. Amazon does their own sales, but they also allow other vendors to sell on their site. You have to look at who sold them.

The return policy complaint was clearly not about Amazon, but the manufacturer.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the reviews you see on a listed product are not likely from that exact listing. So the one you are looking at may say it is being sold by Amazon, but the reviews may be from someone who bought from another vendor.

                For example:

                [ame]http://www.amazon.com/Wusthof-Gourmet-12-Piece-Knife-Block/dp/B003MU9F74/ref=sr_1_2?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1416326761&sr=1-2&keywords=Wusthof+knives[/ame]

I rely on amazon reviews for a lot of my purchases, and have had great luck with their service as well as customer service.

I bought a french press from overstock last week and it showed up broken. literally within 3 minutes of dialing the 800 number i had an RMA issued and a new one on the way. Can't say enough good stuff about good customer service.

Sounds to me like they didn't do their research, and that is somehow Wusthof's problem. Abuse is not covered under ANY manufacturer warranty (broken tip). Blades don't just chip off. They dropped it, landed on the tip, and broke. Again, user error not manufacturing defect. In the Gourmet line only larger knives (over 4-5") are full tang, which explains the balance and "blade not running all the way through the handle". All of this could have been found out pre purchase had they done a little research.

Go with the Wusthof Ikon Classics or Shun. Go look at them in person somewhere first, to see which fits your hands best.

Word. I went to a specialty store the other day instead of buying online through amazon and regretted it. I suppose online ordering has spoiled me dealing with stores/people in general.

If they start shipping Groceries I would rarely if ever walk in a store again.

I like being able to read reviews, that is something you simply can't do in stores. Also if you are looking for electronics for example you can look at last years model, reburb units, or damaged box items. I got a Performance Flywheel for my car that was "damaged box" and saved 125$ flywheel was mint but box was smashed.

I guess I'm looking at the too-good-to-be-true-prices. I found a more realistic set of prices further down the page.
