Yeah, we do have more pressing issues.. Like prisons and jails being overcrowded by non-violent offenders. Like needing a way to generate more tax revenue. Like finding ways to reduce crime rates.

Guess what? Legalizing and regulating marijuana sales can help with those!

There are many reasons why legalizing pot would benefit the state and it's citizens, and not just to satisfy the "stoners".

Let's get this straight - even if pot didn't have a lick of medicinal value, it should be legal for recreational use, period. It's fucking stupid that it has taken this long to start getting there, but I don't think it will take too much longer (5-10 years) before it's legal for recreational use in all 50 states. The states that take the longest to get on the bandwagon (Texas, I'm sure will be in that group) will just look like a bunch of stubborn, stone-aged squares when future generations look back on all of this.

        What issues are those?

I get it...keep on fighting the big fight guys.

And if I may add, for Eric's case(and others with medical issues), I see the purpose . I've seen the testimonies and really do think cannabis has the potential to cure some ailments. I also think it should be researched far more than it has been thus far and as unorthodox as it may be, I hope things change in that sense.

As for the occasional smoker that wants to light it up because it should be legal to do so, that argument is falling on deaf ears. However, I'm also not putting the effort to stop, or vote against legalization. If it passes, then good for you too.

Though some have called for prohibition to be reinstated due to the overdose problems with edibles, especially after it was reported that one child died of a marijuana overdose after eating a homemade marijuana-infused brownie, Ryan explained that while there have been a handful of instances in which a child has gotten ill from consuming edibles,
Doing reading on how they are selling edible maryjane and some people are not know how to properly take doses. People are eating to much and getting no fun times

The medicinal cannabis is the same shit they sell in the recreational stores just with higher potency at a cheaper price to "patients". The occasional smokers are the ones realizing the potential to cure ailments and advocating the legalization. It is a medicine and like any other medicine there will be individuals abusing it legal or not. What's shitty is how much further the medicinal cannabis research could be today if we hadn't waged a war against it.

Marijuana isn't physically adictive, only mentally. People with addictive personality disorder can be addicted to most anything.

The dea is the one in control of releasing marijuana for medical testing, and it's a pretty easy search to find how many companies they have let do studies on positive uses, if you care to educate yourself in the subject matter.

Fwiw, I think the taxes are enough to warrant looking into legalization. Smoking it doesn't do anything for me, but if the oil could be helpful someday in the future, id like it to be an option. For all we know research could find a cure for cancer, for all we know.

Too bad this is going on in Houston.

It appears likely that during its 2015 session the Texas legislature will consider one or more bills that would permit legal use of cannabis (marijuana) in the treatment of approved medical conditions. For many years, a majority of Texans have supported some form of legal access to medical marijuana. Currently, 23 states and the District of Columbia have medical marijuana programs, but they differ widely on such matters as the range of conditions qualifying for treatment, the ease of obtaining permits for use, and the right to grow one’s own medical marijuana. This discussion of the therapeutic promise and legislative possibility for medical marijuana in Texas will feature an experienced legal grower and dispensary operator from New Mexico, a physician, a Baker Institute drug policy expert, a veteran Texas legislator, and current user and non-user advocates and activists.

There is no charge for this event. RSVP by Friday, Nov. 7.

Drugs don't make you do anything you weren't already inclined toward. Weed is fucking harmless.
