This is true. I bought a pair of caiman boots by Circle G. I think I've worn them 3 times trying to get use to them. I don't get how people swear they are so dang comfortable when they're hard as a rock. They now sit on the top shelf in my closet...that was $350 well spent.

My suggestion would be to find a pair under $200 just to see if you'll like the feel. I can't seem to get use to the shank and they all have a hard sole so start cheap before investing $400+ on boots.

Adolfo, here's my take. And I've worn boots for most of my life.

Typically you get what you pay for, but brands fit differently. Tony Lama makes a great boot (still in TX) but tend to run a little narrower. Dan Post, similar quality (I prefer T. Lama) but run s little wider in a D.
Ariat is a pretty decent boot but on my first pair - about a month or so, so not much to go off of. They run around $250.

Skin plays s big roll in what to choose too. Some leathers (steer) are very durable and more suitable for wetter climates. Some exotics will discolor when wet, like elephant. Lizard and ostrich are very durable, comfortable and resistant but MUST keep conditioner on them.

Lastly, I would strongly suggest a Roper (or walking heel). They have shorter heels than Riding boots. Also, the Ariats mentioned above have an extended heel for spur mounts and are a PITA to walk in. Heel hits too quick and causes you to scuff too much.

      Hope this helps man.

If you don't have a place where you can try on several pair/styles, then you are in for a long expensive road. Each boot fits a bit different and have their own nuances. The thing about spending a lot of money on a pair of boots is that they are going to last you a good long while. Find a good cobbler and have the heel caps replaced as needed and resoled when necessary.

Lucchese is a great boot, at a high price. You are paying part for name and part for quality craftsmanship. However, you either have a locchese foot or you don't. A lot of people find that they fit loose in the heel and make it awkward feeling.

Twisted X is a good brand, though they fit large and seem to have larger than normal toe boxes. They are also geared more towards work than dress.

Double H is the same way. They make an excellent boot but again are geared more towards those who work in them.

Ariat is a good all around brand with a large variety of styles. They tend to run a little on the small/narrow side. Their soles are very durable and the comfort level can be adjusted by changing to a different type of ariat insole. Their insoles are another benefit, they are much like the insoles in an athletic shoe. As they wear they can be replaced. I would recommend trying something from their cobalt line (quantum cobalt i think)

Then you have your justin and tony lamas. Stay away from any of their rubber sole boots. You want something with a leather sole and an exotic skin to get good quality here. Smooth ostrich or full quill would be my suggestion.

Anderson Bean is where I would direct most new comers to western style boots that want comfort and style. Most of what you will find are square toe. They run $300-400 for non exotic and $400+ for exotic skins, ostrich, caiman, etc.

As for fit, if you have never worn tjem, it takes some adjusting. You want them to fit "comfortably snug". Keeping in mind that the leather is going to stretch and give as they get broken in. Snug over the instep with about 1/2" of lip in the heel and you should be golden.

I sold boots and managed a store for a very large western retailer for 3 years. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

In that price range I would go Ariat, I find them to be very comfortable.

Arial is good enough for an everyday. Nothing fancy but comfortable after break in. I have worn mine for about 4 years, probably 3 days a week. Need a new sole, but they still look decent.

If you want truly nice, you're gonna pay.

I've got some ostrich Tony Llamas, they are extremely comfortable, a bit on the dressy side though.

Just bought a pair of Tony Llamas work boots. First pair of boots in 18 years.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

                        Clarify - Cowboy/Western.

Didn't you just buy a pair last year when you went back to Ashcanistan?

Try and stick with a American make boot.Unfortunately most boots Justin, Ariat and Redwings are made in China.Justin and Redwings do have some that are made in USA , just something about a cowboy boot made by Chinamen .
