This may be the wrong place but I want all motor people to come in here. My wife bought a 2006 350Z new and now it has 72,000 or so miles. I started it up the other day and holy shit it was rattling like hell. I shut it off and tried to think for a minute. I started it again and it was not that bad so I moved it like I wanted to. Long story short we sent it to the dealer yesterday and then today they tell us that since she had not drove the car after an oil change it would cause it to rattle like that. Has anyone every heard of such shit. I have build motors since I was 15 and I am now 66 and I don't believe anything they say. If you can give me some inputs are 350Z a piece of shit.

That 3.5 is pretty damned reliable, but nissans in general are known for timing guide and tensioner failure. Starts like that.

They can have some clatter on start up if not driven regularly. I'd just make sure the oil isn't low. If not, it's probably fine. It's generally a pretty reliable engine. The only downside is that they're fairly expensive if they die and don't respond that well to boost, and bolt-ons really aren't worth it.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

I have no advice but, I would have never guessed you were 66.

I don't know who to go to locally. I'd start with g35driver.com.

But like I said earlier, you're playing with fire boosting a VQ. It's a pretty good (if underpowered) motor stock, but not great with mods. I'd never throw forced induction on a daily driver Z/G. If it was a sunny day toy, I'd consider dropping in the driveline that's been touched by the hand of God. (LSX) It does fit.

I know the fwd VQ motors are known to have timing chain rattle issues on cold start. I don't know much about the rwd stuff but it sounds like it may be the same deal.

I bet it sounds better than the exhaust note that sounds like a bucket of burnt assholes.
