I know that you are looking for something slightly different from the norm but vinyl letters w/ adhesive can be cut to order by most sign shops for dirt cheap. Vinyl is available in all kinds of colors. The shop would probably be happy to work off some inventory from all of the small rolls they have on the back wall.

Easy to apply and can be changed out whenever you want a different look. Will last 5-7 years outdoors with a good application.
