I've read up on that island before. There have been several attempts to settle it, and even with big resources backing the settlers they ended up abandoning the settlements due to the problems with lack of fresh water. There have been bottles found there from the 30's with apparent burn marks to the underside, apparently showing that someone was attempting to make drinkable water. I'm interested to see what the next expedition digs up.

      Plenty of others too:

Collecting rain water like Denny said
      Morning dew on leaves
      Coconuts a la Cast Away
      Tapping trees
      Sand filtering

That island is practically on the equator with very little rainfall. As for coconuts, the settlers were there attempting to start a coconut farm, and it failed. I don't think there are viable coconut producing trees on the island. The place is more of an atoll than an island.

These are all things are minimal and some of them are a big hassle even when 100% healthy and without a plane crash involved.

Not impossible, but not super easy. A knife and some other supplies would increase the odds quite a bit.

Although, sand filtering is one that I've always read about but never actually tried. Seems like that would be the easiest if it works.

A lot of issues to decrease their odds of any prolonged survival though, starting with injuries.

Also seems like 1 "storm surge" of any type could wash ya right off the dang thing if the pictures are accurate.

Interesting stuff. Just looking at the island it seems hard to survive on.

Most islands are hard to live on without outside reasources. Guam would be chaotic without K-Mart and KFC.

We distributed the troops evenly throughout the island.

Yep, that is what I remember from the last documentary I watched on it.
