  • Health insurance BS billing

I am trying to figure out what my options are, if any, I am feeling pretty screwed over by the system. I had to get a Abdominal CT, my doc sent me to a imaging center and they billed $1200, the adjusted amount was around $150 after the insurance adjustment. A few weeks later I needed another one and they sent me to a hospital, Medical Center of Arlington, well I was quite surprised when they billed $8700 for the exact same shit, the adjusted amount that I have to pay is $1100, on the bill they have something like Full body CT, I have been calling them for a couple of years back and forth and telling them it wasn't a full body CT, they have someone review it and they are saying it's right. Do I have any options other than to tell them to get fucked?

Fight until you cant anymore. Its all in how they code it to the insurance. 1100 is right for abdominal ct as ive had a few done myself.

Tell them to either fix it or go to hell. I've had insurance and doctors fuck up so much shit in the last couple of years I don't even bother calling them to fix it any more unless it is someone I see regularly. Healthcare is the biggest fucking scam going in this country.

One of the biggest reasons our healthcare system is so jacked up is the billing and claims system. Every doc I know has someone on staff for just dealing with this crap.

One of my biggest criticism of Obamacare is that it did nothing to bring costs back to something resembling sanity.

Concur on the scam part, but do you just pay what you think you owe and let the rest go?

I've considered doing this, since I'm sure many folks don't pay anything when visiting hospitals/ERs. Just paranoid...

When I had insurance I would pay the copay or deductible. On several occasions they specifically told me that was all I needed to pay. Then suddenly I get bills in the mail for hundreds or even thousands of dollars for things they say "insurance didn't cover" after they had specifically told me it was covered and that was all I needed to pay.

Or for instance I requested my records from one doctor I wasn't going to use any more because the level of incompetence in that office wouldn't have been tolerated at a fucking McDonalds. They give me the records while I wait, then 6 months later I get a bill in the mail for them copying them for me, which they of course never mentioned while I was there(why wouldn't they have just collected the fee from me at the time?). It's like these places just invent a number off the top of their head, send you a bill and hope you pay it, counting on you having to use them again.

I could go on and on with all the doctor visits I've had in the last few years, but that's the general point. These days I pay cash, and I've only had one issue with that so far, and I'm still pretty pissed off about it, but it is my main doctor so I'm not going to go and try to find another one over $100.
What pisses me off is that no one ever knows anything when you ask them specifically what you are being charged for. It's fucking ridiculous and the only business in the world that is allowed to be operated that way, and the public just "deals" with it.

I feel ya man. I was ready to get discharged early Thursday afternoon from the hospital in Louisville. All I needed was primary physician to sign discharge papers. Fast forward 22 hours and still not done. I ended up taking monitors off, packing up and getting ready to walk out the door for them to finally get on the ball. If I was responsible for any of that bill I'd be livid because they milked another day of care in the hospital out of my insurance company by dragging their feet. It isn't right.....

Had same crap done to me. Go in for a minor problem. Doc looks at me for 5 minutes. Prescribes me something and I go pay my copay. Then get a bill in the mail saying I owe something. Bs

I'm still arguing about $100k in medical bills from my moms death. She worked over Obama care pretty good though. And that's down from about $250k.

Medical charging is such bullshit! We have no way really to dispute charges aside from telling the doctors to take a hike for something they did not do or that we are getting overcharged for.

My wife has some charges from a medical imaging place for something similar to this. They tried to do a sonogram. Squirted jelly, touched her abdomen for like 15 seconds and decided they had to do it differently. Never got any views or readings etc.. yet they still charged her and our insurance for a full set as if they did.

                    F*ck em.

When I was IN surgery on my most recent trip to have more of my guts removed last month, the hospital called my wife wanting to collect money.

The wife was not happy that they were trying to collect money before I even came out of surgery.

Unless it is effecting her estate, I wouldn't worry much about it. It isn't like they can put it on your credit.

Send them a check for $10.00 and make it "Account paid in full". If they cash it, I think you are home free.
