  • Anyone had severe vertigo?

I swear I cannot wait until 2015, been the toughest year yet so far. So I started my new job Monday, flew to Louisville KY last night to see a customer. Had dinner, had a drink and went to the hotel. Got up around midnight to take a piss and had an excruciating headache. I figured it was the whiskey and attempted to go piss. I started to get up and almost fell down, went to one knee and eased my way to the pisser, threw up and back to bed. Blew it off as a strong drink. Got up about 6am and head is spinning like a top, I can't get anything to stay still, I try and get up and I can't walk. I scooted to the toilet and after five minutes sat on the crapper and puked again. Took everything to shower and get dressed. Everytime I moved my head was like it was spinning, couldn't keep my balance to walk.

Got so bad downstairs at breakfast I called a cab to go to a local urgent care clinic. Doctor there said signs of a mild stroke and sent me to er. Er doc ordered CT scan, ekg, and some other tests then the nurse tells me it's severe vertigo. First I've ever heard of that. I literally cannot walk without holding something or someone and my head is spinning like a top. They admitted me a few hours ago and waiting to have an echo done, a stress test and two other tests, then it's off to see the neurologist on the 8th floor.

Has anyone had vertigo? How long did it last? They told me it could be a day, a week, or a few months. This sucks, you literally cannot move without help and your head is continously spinning.....

Vertigo flat out sucks! Had a severe attack a few years ago. Ended up being a tumor that separated the ear drum. Had surgery to remove the tumor and reattach the ear drum. Been ok since.

No sir. You know ar first that's what I thought, I had something in my drink. But they said more than likely caused by my flight yesterday. Crazy something in the inner ear can cause such havoc.

Mine is set off by man made tall structures. Especially cat walks or expanded metal outdoor stairs, Sucks. Odd thing is natural heights don't bother me.

Oh good God yes, thought I was dying. Back in the spring of '99. Holy hell, I've never been sicker, couldn't walk across the room without falling down & throwing up. Acute Vestibular Labrynthitis.
Took a solid month before starting to get anywhere close to normal. Not sure if related but I still have a greater sensitivity to things like elevators and amusement rides... 14 f'en years later.

Meclizine (antivert) did wonders for me.

I have had vertigo before. I don't call it severe though. I was at a grocery store and walking the isle and all of the sudden it felt like I was going to black out. Grabbed the basket and made my way to the front of the store. Stayed still for a few minutes and it went away. I went to the doc the next week and he told me it was probably vertigo. Could have been caused by my vision down the isle. Only had one similar experience since. Did not have the puking at all. Maybe you have migraine headaches. I get those and they make me want to vomit sometimes and your vision is fucked for a bit too.
