Too many lawsuit-happy assholes to take on the liability on the side..."Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

I don't have anything real steady I do on the side really. My parents own a former trailer park with 15 rental houses/apartments on it covering about 3 acres of land. I mow it every other Friday during the summers or basically whenever the grass is grown for $100 a pop. Tax writeoff for them and a little extra cash for me.
Every now and then I'll work on computers for family or friends when they need it and typically charge around $100-$150 depending on how much time I spent on it.
The money I make doing that stuff is what pays for my racing. I try not to spend anything out of our bank account on my racing if I can help it. Of course I've only raced at one event so far this year and I have no idea where all that money has gone. Damn wifey been making me spend it on other stuff.Carl S.

I went in with a buddy on a shop to work on the race cars and my 69 in. He got his dealers licence to sell used cars to help pay for the shop. After a string of bad buys, he asked me to go to the auction with him to check out cars before he buys them. Then after 3 "on the side" mechanics screwed up stuff that I had to fix for him, he started paying me to do it. I did the occasional favor for friends, and maybe a walk in or two, but got too damn busy to do it by myself, and not busy enough to quit my day job. Now a fellow board member and I work nights and weekends for side money."If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." - Henry Ford

I volunteer at a brewery which doesn't really pay money but there are plenty of other benefits. Free beer being the main one.
As an extension of that though there are plenty of paying gigs if I had the time. Working at random festivals, parties, marathons, etc...
