Look, you started this thread looking for advice, so here it is. You're a fucking idiot if you don't go to college and get a degree for free. I mean just so down in the gutters stupid that you might as well go ahead and start applying for that car sales job, where most dealers will hire ANYONE that has an $18 suit that loves to constantly work, with no time off. Sounds like a great life you're setting yourself up for. You've got a gift right in front of you that a lot of people would kill for. Use it.

Without any college background you'll be very fortunate to make that kind of money and it probably won't be in new car sales. Heck with an associates you'd be lucky to make that.

Education doesn't equate to earnings, but it definitely opens doors and assists.

We need ditch diggers and other minimally qualified workers just as much as high level employees. If he wants to piss away the opportunity to make something of himself just to solidify his spot on the bottom rung of the workforce...let him.

This is why I'm against a $15 minimum wage however.

And not having an education definitely closes a lot of doors.

                Except at car dealers.

This post is shocking. First, because you're 40, and then second, I'm only 2 years behind.

I guess you don't understand my point.

The relationship is not inversely proportionate because it is so dependent on the education. Not having an education immediately closes a massive number of doors. But based on the area of education, it may only open a few doors or it may open a lot. What I'm saying is...be smart in your degree choice. But most importantly, no education will limit you more than anything else.

In other words...a square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not always a square.

You gotta think second and third order son!!!

I will agree with Talisman on using the education that is provided for you if at all possible. However, I didn't even have the $18 suit to my name when I started in this business and I would like to think things have gone pretty well. Did I dream of being a car guy growing up? Nope. Would I change my career path if given the opportunity and hindsight being 20/20? Nope.

Go to school and get your degree if at all possible(we still hire the edumaketed types). If that's not the way your life leads you, we will be more than happy to teach you cars down here!

                              Good luck bud!

Yeah there are plenty that are prior military or otherwise hard workers - working long hours every week. However, not everyone is cut out to be a car salesman. Good or bad dealership - being successful in car sales is different than just existing in car sales.

Do it part time, try it out...etc, but don't bank your life on that endeavor.

I know when I got out I would've happily done just about any paying job. Civilian life/mentality is a lot different and a lot of what you're probably used to won't be the same.
