Chapter 30. Pays you directly as long as you're in school. You pay for the school yourself.
Chapter 31. Gov pays the school, and gives you e5 bah. Plus a little for books.
I went to school in Waco. The bah was shit. My monthly chapter 31 payment would have been less than the chapter 30 payment.
"but you still have to pay for school!"
I used the hazelwood act, so the state covered my school and I pocketed the chapter 30 payment. Badabing badaboom.
Since the switch to the post 9/11 is irreversible I always advice guys to check the bah rate.DE OPPRESSO LIBER

Dallas BAH is $1749 fulltime. It is then pro rated down to 60% I believe. THEN if you're a distance learner you're only allowed 50%.
What was the Ch 30 payments like?
Also quick note: Univ Of Phoenix (bleh) counts ONE on campus class as full time. I have to take 3-4 to be full time, and one of those must be taken on campus. But I'm not sure if Collin College rules are the same across the state or not.

With drawing form the G.I. bill, the Hazelwood Act as well as receiving 76248 BAH, I would he compensated around $3000 a month just to go to school.
I'm not too excited for school right now. I love to work and will have an issue going to class for a few hours a week and doing homework the rest. I am not ready to dedicate as much time and effort *into school* as it takes. Ideally, I will be happy making around $50-$60k for a while.
However, whatever I do, I will and am going back into part time paint restoration (detailing).

Not sure what your work experience is aside from the miltary but there are plenty of people (even with degrees) that would be happy making $50-$60k too. I have to assume you are in your mid 20's? If so, you will regret waiting too much longer to get your schooling done.
The transition from military to school will likely be easier to make than civilian job to school, IMO, because once you start working and making decent money, your expenses tend to keep up with that, and cutting it down later will get more difficult.
You say you're going to get back in to part time paint restoration, so that will supplement your $36k a year you would be bringing in going to school.

Another thing to think about is the tax implications. I am assuming that BAH is still tax-exempt, along with the GI Bill. Actual bring home money of $36k for a single person grosses out far higher. Maybe one of the smart fellers can do the math on what taxable income would need to be to take home $36k..

Well if you went to school full time 12 credits ($1700/mn x12) received your book stipens ($350) and apply for Fafsa ($$ depends) you'd still have time to do a part time job.
I'm taking 9 credit hours, work 40 hrs a week and travel for atleast one week a month. I'm doing just fine not counting my family obligations.
