Could install one of those cyangen mods and the phone would run the latest and greatest and run much faster. Im on kitkat 4.4.2 so i assume you are too. Hardest part is tracking down a good one click installer

Before ditching the S4 root it. You can get rid of all the bloat. Also check out the s4 forums on xda developers. You might find a ROM thatll speed things up quite a bit. The devs over there do some cool shit with their roms.

The weird thing since this latest update, my unlock screen responds much slower. I have to press the first number twice to get it to register, and sometimes the 3rd number won't register at all, have to press the power button, press it again to get back to the unlock screen and start again.

Just super annoying since before this last upgrade, it ran much better.
Also, yesterday I had to plug it in 3 times. Powered it off/on and it still drained the battery very fast. Like in 5 minutes went from 86% to 62% (finally tuned on the % indicator to get a better idea of how fast it drained). Today it is back to normal battery life...

LMAO at the Poll! I've been using the S5 for about 3 weeks now and I like it. Prior to that I was using a Nexus 5 and loved the vanilla Android experience. Like someone suggested, before deciding on a new phone maybe you should try rooting it first. Oh and I've heard good things about the M8. Sorry I've been no help whatsoever

I love my S4. How can you disable the bloatware?

To disable all the Blotware, go to Settings, App Manager and scroll over to "ALL", and any app that you did not download, you can turn off aka disable.

When you click on the app, it will have an option to "Turn Off" but be sure to click on "Clear Data" and the "Clear Cache" icons, then click on the "Turn Off" button, it wil go to the "Turn Off List".

Picked up a M8 for work about a month ago coming from an S4. Liked it so well I picked another up for my personal phone about two weeks later coming from an S4 mini.

I'd still recommend rooting the phone you have though.. Much cheaper and I still don't see the jump from an S4 to the S5 worth it IMO.

Good lord, samsung is becoming as bad as apple with this cult-like following. Personally, I hate that faux plastic/pleather/whatever it is on the back of the S5. And yes, their cameras suck balls.

loved my nexus s, galaxy nexus, s2, skyrocket, s4, and note 3.
Also loved my htc evo, htc evo 3d, htc inspire, htc rezound, and htc dna, as well as my one plus.
You won't go wrong with the m8 or the s5, but my preference would be the s5.

I'm really liking my S5 so far. I rooted it and threw in a custom rom. If you do mostly stuff that has you listening to audio from the phone speakers the the m8 wins hands down. But, besides that id have to give a slight edge to the s5. Basically youll be happy with either one. Do you prefer Touchwiz or Sense?

The M8 has vastly superior built in speakers, it's a day and night difference. It's actually made of metal and it's pretty much been picked unanimously as the better looking and feeling phone. It's back camera is very easy to use and takes decent photos, as good as anything else out there besides the S5. The front camera is hands down better than anything else on the market.

The S5 has slightly more memory and a slightly faster processor. It's officially water resistant (the M8 also is but only to 3 feet or so) and has a fingerprint scanner. It's rear camera takes some very high megapixel photos and if you have some photographer skills it's considerably better.

Personally I have an M8 and my wife has an S5. If I were you I'd consider waiting two weeks for the Note 4 to hit the market. It's going to be bigger but will have all the bells and whistles of everything else on the market.

Really though the S4 is a great phone. It'd be like buying a 2015 truck because it has 5 more hp and a different color steering wheel from your paid for 2014 model. The previous HTC phone is pretty much the same, a great device.
