  • Does anyone have a V6 truck?

    Keep in mind I daily a regular cab S10 with a 4cyl in it right now. How bad are the new/er V6 trucks power wise? I see the new F150's are EPA estimated to get 23 on the highway, which is what I am getting on average in the dime. The downside is the ~300/mo car payment. I don't do any real hauling, or pulling a trailer. Maybe some lumber and random stones every now and then from work. I know, I know, get a 5.0L. But, unfortunately, I need a truck, and fuel mileage is important.

    Not necessarily speaking to just Ford either, there is a 2011 GMC reg cab v-6 at a local dealer with 36K miles for 15999. Or for just a bit more, I can go get a brand new F-150 with a V6.

    Stop commuting in a truck. You can keep the S10 for occasional hauling, and get a lease trade in gas sipper to commute. Slow99 did it with a rental fleet Yaris.

      I have thought about that as well, the problem now is, fixing the damn s10! A lease won't work for me, I commute 500 miles a week minimum

        The 2013 F150 3.7 has 302hp and 278ft#

        The 1997 F150 4.6 had 220hp and 265ft#

        The 3.7 has plenty of power for easy hauling and commuting - just now what it is and what it isn't.

          No no. He wasn't saying to get a lease, he was saying that slow99 bought a lease trade in, and advising you to do the same.

                Does anyone have a V6 truck?

                I drive a V-6 Tacoma. I was hauling full bed of camping gear, a backseat full of guns (almost to the roof), and a trailer that was probably about 5500 pounds without much issue. Gas mileage was terrible while towing but it made the drive without problem. Without a load or with a small one I get about 22 highway, and about 18 mixed more or less.

                But I hear they aren't worth the money

                  If you want a truck buy a v8 imho. If you want economy buy a car. The days of small trucks is over and its a shame. Im sure a v6 will be fine as long as you dont need to haul something heavy like a camper.

                  I borrowed the neighbors dodge 2004ish v6 with a 5 speed and it was fine.

                    The only downside to buying a v8 is your fuel milage city is close to what my Tacoma gets while towing a trailer. 95% of the time I am driving around unloaded so MPG and drivability are more important to me than how much shit I can throw in there or tow. A v6 is fine for 97% of truck owners.

                        I just cant stomach a v6 truck. My 06 Ranger got 16 mpg. With that kind of mileage, why not get a full size truck that can do a lot more AND get better fuel economy? Ill never do it again

                              I have a CMC with a 6cyl. I don't use it for any type of heavy hauling but I have pulled a trailer a time or two. I have had three in a row a 98, 05 and now this one and all have done everything I have asked of them.
