  • Anybody work for Southwest Airlines?

    Aircraft Mechanic

I've been itching to go back to work for the airlines and no way will I go back to American Airlines.

Anyways is it difficult to become a mechanic at Love Field. I see they're hiring at Chicago, Oakland and Houston. I would consider Houston if it eventually gets me to Dallas.

Any pointers on building my resume to get past the screeners? What's starting pay these days at SWA? Is it still 5 years to top out?

I flew on a 737 twice. That's the extent of my knowledge of a 737.

I'm not really worried about the lack of 737 experience. A guy I used to work with just got hired on with SWA and has only about 4 years of working on Aircraft and 2 years of that was General Aviation.

I was under the impression that their entrance test had specific questions about 737 systems. With that little experience I don't see how he would have got hired for maintenance. Spirit is usually hiring Dfw.

I don't blame you on not going back to american, what an abortion of a company.

Somewhere, I have all my 737 Gen Fam books. If you've worked on any Boeing Commercial AC, the hydraulics are no big problem! Hell I still have the 767, DC-10 and the A-300 manuals too.

My buddy said the test had a few specific questions for the 737. He passed the test however so the questions must've been pretty basic.

I remember the test for American Eagle. What a joke.

SWA usually only hired same state you live in. Always herd very company to work for and employees fly free.
