  • just saw the most awesome thing...

just watched an episode of Sons of Guns from yesterday. They reconditioned an original WWII flamethrower owned by a WWII Marine Veteran, who just happened to be ONE of TWO MARINES to EARN the CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR from WWII. He earned it by singlehandedly taking out 7 Pillboxes with a flamethrower during a firefight in Iwo Jima.

At the end of the show, after Will tested the flamethrower and made sure it worked, this 89 y/o Marine strapped all 70lbs of that fucker to his back, and went to town on this makeshift bunker they made for a target.

Watching this man, who earned the CMOH, empliment the same weapon he used 65 years ago to earn that medal.....man, that was almost surreal. Hands down the most awesome thing I've seen on television in a very long time.

and fuck you if it's in the wrong forum.

Will Hayden didnt rebuild that flame thrower.

That being said, Ive had the pleasure of spending time with "Woody" Williams and he's a class act.

Other than that, that shows a fucking joke.

I watched it too. It was a pretty damn cool thing watching that old Marine with the flamethrower strapped on his back. At one point, Will said he had no interest in making a penny off this project because the old man has long since paid every debt he will ever incur.

just going by what I saw in the show, don't really care one way or the other if he did the job or not.

just sharing what I saw regarding Mr. Williams firing off that flamethrower.

and yeah, the show is pretty rediculous.

Not to nit-pick, but there were a lot more than two that received the MOH... http://www.tecom.usmc.mil/HD/MOH/Wor..._1941-1945.htm

That being said, it was awesome of them to have him on the show. The story behind his actions is the stuff of legend.

I thought he said one of two still living. Could be wrong though (and often am). The old marine was great and everyone owes a debt of gratitude to him and all the others that fought for our freedom and way of life. That being said i also believe that show is somewhat of a joke also.

Gotcha, I guess I wasn't listening to the show when he said that.
There was a show on the Military Channel a while back called "Feats of Valor" that was about three MOH recipients (Woody being one of them). If you get a chance to see it, it's a good show.

Did you know that flame throwers are not regulated by the BATF?
