I kind of fell into my career but it's been a satisfying so far. Joined the Marine's out of highschool because I didn't have anything else going on. Once my enlistment was done I finished my undergrad and started on my masters with the intention of getting commissioned. However, between meeting the wife and growing up I decided a military career wasnt in the cards so I just kind of started working local govt because I needed a job. Eventually I want to become a City Manager or a department director. Considering I had no purpose or direction when I joined the Marine's 11 years ago and I'm not 30 yet I feel like I've done alright so far. I probably would have majored in civil engineering or planning in undergrad if I had known that I would end up trying to play real life SimCity.

I enjoy what I do. In high school I was always working on cars. I also grew up around airplanes. Working on jets sounded more exciting then working on greasy old cars. Been working on aircraft for 11 years now and have never been one day without a job. My first aviation job sucked!!! Wasn't paid hardly anything (L3 communications in Greenville)
Its paid off and soon I'll be looking at a different company. I may try and go back to work in the airline side of the house for SWA or side step over to Gulfstream.

The only solid idea I had of "what I wanted to do when I grew up" was that I didn't want to work in an office, with slow turn around on projects, and the accompanying stress. I told myself I wanted something I could let go when I left for the day, and not have to worry about anything again until my next day started.
Which is exactly the opposite of what I ended up doing. I have just kind of fallen into each of the roles I have had since getting out of the Army. Mostly out of necessity since I already had a wife and a kid, so the luxury of being too picky wasn't something I really had.

Our high school guidance counselor used to ask us what you'd do if you had a million dollars and didn't have to work. Invariably, what you'd say was supposed to be your career. So, if you wanted to fix old cars then you're supposed to be an auto mechanic.Originally posted by davbrucasI want to like Slow99 since people I know say he's a good guy, but just about everything he posts is condescending and passive aggressive.
Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?
You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.
