  • First House

After 2+ months of wrestling with the awful listing agent and mounds of paperwork, I finally got the keys to my first house. I'm definitely looking forward to no longer commuting 400 miles a week.
I'm pumped about it, so I figured I'd share.

Congrats! It's a good feeling getting those keys.... At first, then you realize you are now responsible for anything that breaks, doesn't work, etc... LOL

Still like coming HOME to a place that is mine (and the banks) with the freedom to do as I please (assuming HOA doesn't have restrictions on it) and know that with every payment I am building equity and not just pissing the payment away to an apartment management company...
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

                          Congrats on the new crib!

Despite many posted experiences online, i went ahead and took a home owners warranty on the house when we bought. the 1 year just lapsed and i've had 2 service calls for a total of about ~1800 in parts/labor for which i paid $200 on top of the $529 annual price (seller provided first year). This year i let it lapse and they're hounding me to buy again, but for $100 less. So 1 service call with the 100 deductible plus the actual cost of the warranty can usually pay for itself.

The ac guy quoted me 600-800 bucks for the replacement of my evap coil. then the second call was basically free aside from the deductible.

You've grown up a lot in the few years you've been on here. Good job. Now be prepared for the biggest project of your life, because there will always be SOMETHING to do to it, even if it is a new build.
