I'm a street off lower greenville right by Robert E. Lee. Your place use gas heaters as well?
I've got the "big buddy" heater. It's output range is 4000 to 18000 BTU. You can run it off either 1 or 2 small 1lb propane canes or you can get a kit and connect it to a 20lbs propane tank. It has a tip sensor that will cut it off if it gets knocked over. It also has an oxygen depletion sensor that will cut it off it the oxygen levels get too low.

The only extra precaution I would advise is to get a carbon monoxide detector. You should have this anyways if you've got gas heaters..

I have the "big buddy" and it works great. You can also add some D cell batteries (or use an AC adapter) and a small fan will keep the air circulating.

They also make a smaller version called the "little buddy"

Where do you use the heaters? I've got wood floors throughout the house not sure if that makes any difference or not, compared to carpet.

Honestly I'd rather use oil-filled heaters that you do not have to refill the oil or electric compared to gas or propane but whatever works most efficiently I'd use.

I've used them in bedrooms and bathrooms...even to bring up the temperature in my 2 car garage when I'm in there for extended periods of time.

Mine have a thermostat on them, so you can set it to heat from 50F to 80F.
