Let's be honest. Those of you talking about how great it would be if we lived to be 100+, you are talking about yourself and those you love or like. People you see fit that contribute to the greater good and not burden others. You are not talking about how great it would be that the entire population of the world were to live infinitely. You think it sucks now, imagine if all these people who do not use, nor ever heard of birth control just keep reproducing. Then you have assholes begetting assholes for centuries. And guess who will inherit the Earth? ASSHOLES, because their numbers will grow exponentially (they already do), while those with brains will recognize the inevitable probability of an overpopulated planet and all the problems that come with it will wither away.
I need to watch "Idiocracy" again. I think that there Mike Judge was a danged-ole genius producing that movie of what a lot of people are already thinking.
It is always an interesting topic though. Refer to "Soylent Green", "Logan's Run", etc
Great post, as always, Matt. I would think with longer lives we might see more people move towards investing earlier so they don't have to work as long, and taking advantage of 401k's, and other retirement investing options. I had that conversation with every one of the people I hired, and explained to them how it would benefit them. I looked at mine yesterday for the first time in awhile and my rate of return over the last three years has been in the 21% range. It always stunned me when people weren't interested in free money.
I also think people will start to get financially smarter, and invest in things such as solar power for their homes because there will be genuine long term cost savings. In turn, that will improve the environment, and as the population stops growing, we'll find an equilibrium with resources.

Mine has only been around 6-7% YoY for the past few years, but now that I think of it, you have probably had your 401K a lot longer than mine so maybe it's recovering from the crash still? Not sure...regardless that's massive growth.

The s&p annual return over the last 3 or so years is about 19%. You suck at 401k-ing.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?
You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.
You can't pick your fidelity options? If so, your company sucks at 401k-ing.

Maybe i can, but I'm not aware of it if so. I was under the impression I could pick from various plans selected by the employer.
But on the other side of things, I know nothing about investing so it's probably good someone else is in control.
My guess is that a large portion of your allocation is in fixed income.
