  • Which truck should I get...

    Option 1: 2013 f-150 FX2, Nav, hid's, 5.0 engine. 22k miles, Private seller, $30k

Option 2: 2012 F-150 FX2, no Nav, no hid's, ecoboost engine, 24k miles, at a dealer giving a lifetime powertrain warranty with it, $30k

Option 2 is almost 3 hours away.

Personally, I would buy option 1. If it's a private seller, there's probably some wiggle room on the price.

$30K is a little high for the either if you ask me. My 2013 Super Cab FX2, no nav or hid's with 5.0 and 27k miles had private party value of $24-25K, had to haggle with the dealer on trade in but ended up getting $23K, which they will probably turn around and ask $28K-$30K for it on the used lot. There is a lot of wiggle room on used vehicles. Dealers low-ball everyone on their trade and you would be surprised how many people don't do their research and just accept what the dealer offers.

Having owned both the 5.0 and Ecoboost my impressions are:
Ecoboost beats the 5.0 in towing and acceleration.
MPG's will be pretty much a wash between the 2. I average 19.5-20.5mpg every week driving 33 miles each way to work and back in traffic with the 5.0. I'm averaging 20.2 in the ecoboost so far...

Option 1. And thank goodness it isn't a Dodge.

I have an ecoboost in mine and I love it. Once you get blown you're never the same. However if you spend a lot of time behind the wheel I'd get the one that has the most creature comforts.

Telling the dealer "this is what I want, this is what I'll pay" is probably how.

                          Drive a 14/15 Sierra -

I traded my 13 ecoboost 4x4 (NEW) after 8 months.

I got a 14 Sierra and LOVE IT. Got 23mpg on the highway and i average 17.5/18 in the city.

The ecoboost Did 14 city and 18 highway.. ((( It was FAST as hell thought, pulled nice and straight, no problem with TQ or HP)))

Screw getting a 30k truck with no amenities.

$10 says that lifetime power-train warranty will be worth absolute dick should something actually go wrong. So what you are left with is a older model year, slightly higher miles, and not equally equipped.

And I bet that dealer will require that they do all service at their store. You ready to drive 3 hours for every oil change?

I would try talking the guy down on option 1.
