I bought a 13 4x4 ecoboost last July. 16.5k miles on it and zero issues. I drove it 3500 miles Oregon to Virginia with a tall enclosed 8.6x16 loaded with shit. Even up in the mountains I could run 80mph up the steep grades with little effort. My old 5.4 would have been screaming for mercy to do the same at 55. As mentioned above from 1700 to redline you have a strong power curve and that in turn means you can get up to speed with minimal effort loaded or not. I'm not 17 anymore and worry about how my daily driver sounds, so the exhaust note argument means nothing to me. If you haven't seen it I suggest watching the ecoboost teardown they did after the stress test. I was pretty impressed that everything remained in new build spec, and the main 'caps' these engines have look boss as fuck!

OP go test drive both, then enjoy your new ecoboost

I had a 2012 5.0 XLT Screw that I bought almost 2 years ago. 36k miles on it and it averaged 18.5 mpg city driving and 21 something when we took it on vacation to Florida. Traded it in for a 2014 5.0 SXT Screw with 4 wheel drive memorial day weekend. I went with the 5.0 again for a couple of reasons, mostly that I could get the 4 wheel drive or the eco and stay in budget but not both. I have no complaints with the 5.0 for a DD though.

What Corey said.. A couple years ago I got a new FX2 with leather and heated seats for $28k. Im sure these days its close to $30k for the same truck.

This thread is making me want to go test drive one of these EcoBoost F1fiddy's.

$30k+ is still too much for a single cab truck.

LOL, the 2001 F150 Lightning was over $32K base price, in 2001...

                        • I love the Eco in my 2012 but HATE the gas mileage. I have a lead foot though but have not averaged better than 16 mpg even on 500 mile trips. I am positive my truck has 3.73's in it and considering I do not haul anything I would kill for lower gears.

Yeah, you must have a lead foot. My Tremor has 4.10's and I get 20-21mpg... If i am constantly in the gas (in boost) is quickly drops to 15-16...

Oh fuck that nonsense. Makes me want to look hard at the Dodge ecodiesel. If Toyota would just make a diesel tacoma I would buy that, but for some reason they refuse to release one. Is a mid size diesel truck that gets north of 28 mpg highway and can tow 6500-8500 pounds too much to ask?

                              • My gas milage was crap as well, but i drive 90 on the highway, so on my way home i drove the speed limit or under, my mileage went up to 18 on the display from 14. Not bad for a slightly lifted bigger tired truck going 75.
